Do you believe that two with such different approaches can have a deep respect for one another? Perhaps even a real friendship? What has been your experience? Thank you for answering. Many Blessings!

Tolerance is (or should be) a virtue nurtured by both non-religious and religious people. We are all humans no matter what our differences are and different opinions shouldn't ruin good friendships. I have a couple of theist friends and we get along just fine. With some of them I can carry a discussion on religious subjects while with the others I understand it is better to avoid it completely.

hi,rsa, there is every possibility of friendship between them.Because that trust and confidence is not only the entire life and there are so many things as part and parcel in our life where these two people may have coincidence on so many issues.I knew few people where the real friendship among them even though there is difference on this issue. All the best and have a nice time.
