If you recall I posted a topic last month regarding my experience with a K-mart layaway. I am back to tell you all about the experience my daughter and I had when we went back to K-mart to pick up the layaway after our ongoing pitfalls trying to endure the thing. First I will give you the link to the first part of the saga:

Okay. So, I called in the following day. Talked to the store manager, Denise(go figure) and he said they usually don't do this. I explained our situation(on SS and can only pay once a month, grandson's christmas)and he okayed it, said he was "noting it here" that we were okay until December 3rd. TODAY, right? So we go to K-mart expecting to just get the items off layaway and get out of there. NOPE!! They had put the items back in stock! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? It was like 12:30P. in the afternoon on the day we had told him we would come in and get the items and they had had put the items back out on the floor. OMG! I told them what this DENISE bozo had said and they said there was no notes. When they get orders from corporate and people are late they have to put stuff back. They just did it this morning. Not even waiting until the end of the day to see if we did infact come in. No notes so how were they to know anyway?! I was so mad! The manager lied to me. They did go and get the items and let us go ahead. I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN AND NEVER SHOP AT K-MART AGAIN!!!! Your thoughts. WOuld it discourage you too if this happened to you? WOuld you shop there again?

We do not have a K Mart here in town. I think I would be leery of doing layaway though because of how Wal Mart used to run theirs. I do think they should have waited until the end of the day before restocking your items. I am glad you were able to get it. The manager may have made a note elsewhere, and someone may have removed the note. It is hard when money is tight.

Our K-mart is clear across town. I only went there because I was able to talk my daughter into a layaway so we could get my grandson the more expensive Nintendo we wanted for him. That way we could get other toys too. Have a nice Christmas after several pretty pathetic ones recently. The manager should run things better. The place is sort of a joke anyway. The cart I use to meander around the store in goes about -o1 miles an hour and is like a 1950's model. I really think the store is on its last legs.

Ya, if it had been close I probably would have gone in to check into. It is clear across town, nearly out of town. I did get the items and I will not go there again.

Oh, I got my items. The manager lied to me. Corporate had told them to put stuff out and they did. No note to keep it in place. And they did it that morning. COuldn't even wait until the end of the day. I won't go there again.

I work in a shop (not K-Mart) and when customers put items on hold we can note down the latest day of collection. Management search the reserved items daily (usually on a morning before we open)and some management only take the items off ending with the previous day's date on while others take off ones with the current day's date on.
Maybe it was a similar thing with K-mart, Denise wrote it todays date to mean until the end of the day, whereas the person reading it could have took at until today's date.
Personally, I would give them another chance as they did rectify the mistake.

Did you read the prior post? It was the store's fault! I told the original clerks who handled setting up the layaway what our situation was. Could only play once a month. The original clerk said it would be okay just be sure and call in on the date of the next required payment and let them know we would be in on Dec. 3rd to pay off the layaway and get the items. We did. The clerk I spoke to then said they had JUST changed the rules and they couldn't hold the items until the 3rd. So I asked to speak to a manager. His name was Denis. He said the original clerk should never have set this up, we can't really do this, bla bla bla. I explained my situation, he said he would okay and would note it 'right here' and it would be okay until the 3rd. So, on the 3rd we go in at about 12:30p. and they had already put our stuff back. And, Denise HAD NOT noted anything. They told me corporate had called and told them to put everything back that was late in their payments. Well, if Denis had noted what he said he had then they wouldn't have put the stuff back. And atleast waited until the end of the day to set the things back instead of that morning. GGGGGRRRRRR!!!!

I went through kind of the same thing with Walmart when they did layaway. I went to pick up my stuff on the day of my daughter's birthday and they couldn't find half of it!!!! I didn't get part of hers though because they had sold out of the little turtle sandboxes that I had wanted one for her. I was furious! There have been a couple of Christmas layaways that I had here and there that I had to wait for hours to get out. It has discouraged me from shopping at certain places.

I hear ya. If they get a system that works and can't handle they need to quit doing. Maybe Wallies had the right idea. I won't do it again.

You could always send an email with all of your info and names to the headquarters of Kmart.
I feel that they would rather have a happy customer than no customer.
Go for it.

Kmart Corporate was part of the problem so I doubt that would do much good. Thanks though.

hi celticeagle yes I remember your discussion. i h ave not shopped in
a KMart for ages as their prices as not as good as Walmart. but to do that to you is really a stinking shame. I hate clerks who will lie like that and leave you to have to try and explaing things. I sure would not'go back to them after the way you were treated. I wonder it they realize by acting like that they will lose cusomers?

They are just doing whatever corporate tells them to do. And I think the original clerks should never have told us it would be okay. I really don't think they will be around alot longer. Read my response to Gerty.

NEVER at that one. obviously it isnt the fault of KMart in general. its the fault of the bozo good for nothing they hired. people just dont do their jobs right any more and they really should start learning. in this economy now im always leary of best buy. never had a problem with kmart but once with a Best buy here. they gave me back the wrong computer once, would you believe? anyway, that was a big mess. so, never trust them any more.

I think he could have been trained better. K-marts manager told me he would note my layaway and he didn't. He respresents K-mart as far as I am concerned and I won't do business with them again.

CE-
I'd be drafting a letter to their corporate offices giving them all of the details including the name of this manager who stated he would approve it. He obviously neglected to notify those in the layaway department and should be reprimanded for causing this to occur. Were you able to get your things today or did you just leave? Did they refund your deposit?
I've not experienced this sort of issue as I've never done layaway but when I've had poor service I've written to management before. When we had an issue at the Mall of America with Santa one year we ended up being given two free all day passes to the rides because of it. We had been given a buzzer to come back when Santa was off break and when we arrived they told us he was full! We were in line for an hour to get the buzzer and then had to wait four hours around the mall only to be turned away.
I wish you all the best. Namaste-Anora

The manager lied that he had added the notes of our conversation. We were told that corporate had ordered them to put back in stock all that were late with their payments. If the manager had actually noted our account I don't know if it would have changed anything. We did get our items. I may draft a letter to corporate. I am so tired and wrung out that it won't be tonight. Wow! I bet you were upset. I think if they would just stand by their rules and not change everything to suit them it would be nice. We set this layaway and explained our situation. The clerk told us exactly what to do and we followed it to the letter only to be told the rules had changed. Wish you all the best as well.

That's one thing I hate about stores!! And even restraunts. I hate when they tell you something and then you come in and they have no idea what you're talking about or they can't find a note that was suppose to be left. Absolutly hate it!
I would not shop there again!
