This things was so bad that it locked up my operating system to the point that I could even run anything in safe mode, or use a restore point! Thank God I have a friend that was able to get me a windows disk, and talk me through the process of reformatting.
I lost all of my programs and files. But I have a computer to work with again. It's nice to be back on Mylot!

Agreed. Modern convieniences right? HAHA! I can't complain though...without computers, I really wouldn't know what to do with myself most of the time.
I'm happy to be back !

You know, I did have that running. I'm not sure whether or not that had anything to do with it, but I have not reinstalled it since I formatted.

I just went through a similar thing with my desk top at home. It froze so much that I even lost the video card. Now I just the card that originally came with the manufacturer. It doesn't process pictures quickly as before.
It used to be a Vista.
Thankfully, I also had a friend who helped me install a Windows 7.

Good. These viruses are getting out of control. It would be nice if they could somehow find a way to catch the people creating them and charge them with destruction of government property...since the internet is government run. That might make them think twice about doing this to people.

I good to have you back and have your computer running again. I will not lecture you on how you should get a good virus protection as the members above suggest. As you know what went wrong and know what needs to be done.
Anyways I did wonder where you had been, so a re-welcome back to you and happy mylotting to you.

Hi. Was wondering why you were not active here. Now I know the reason. Sorry to hear that your computer was inoperative. Hope to see you here in mylot more frequently now that your system is up and running. Welcome back.

I recommend using "deep freeze". It literally makes your computer safe from anything. What it does is everytime you boot up or restart your computer, it goes back to it's previous state. Meaning, any saved files, added temp files from the internet, and any changes at all to windows folder, will be null and void. It's a good shield from anything.

And it doesn't effect saved files in things like word and excell? I'll have to check that out.

I had both AVG and spybot S&D on my computer...the virus still got past both of them, and even continued to damage my system after several scans.
Now I am using microsoft essentials, and malwarebytes..as per suggestion by my friend. Hopefully I will have better luck with those

hmmm That's possible. I'm thankful anyway. Maybe I will see if I can look up information on how to do those things in case of future issues.

I'm pretty sure I got it from MySpace. I was listening to songs on their player when it crashed...either that or my daughter found it when she was playing one of her online games. I've been avoiding myspace, and letting my daughter back on my computer.

Hi, zionsphere!
So I think you need an anti-virus software in your renewed computer. And I advise you put your files in a different disk partition. So if you have a OS collapse, you can only format the disk partition in which you installed your OS in, you won't lose your files in another disk partition.

I'm not sure how to do that. I think I'm going to make myself a backup disk in case this happens again ... I actually heard something about partitioning from a friend of mine that said it was a bad idea...don't remember why though. I really don't know as much about computers as I would like to think I do
