Why humans need to believe...

There are many who wonder why children and even adults have a need to believe in something that is not real, doesn't exist, or something that may exist but one cannot see. I think there are many reasons for this, but one of the best examples I've heard is from Terry Pratchett's HogFather when Death relates to his daughter that people need to learn to believe in something that does not exist in order to make it real. I've shared the video below, what do you think of what Death has to relate?

(My daughter loves Terry Pratchett books)Yes they begin with the little things. Small lies. So true. I think parents want children to remain young and lie to their children to try to keep them innocent and youthful. Humans are fearful and in constant dread. People believe in God and the scriptures though they can't see him and he may not even exist. People are afraid and have to have something/someone to hang on to. Something to make life worth living. Childhood myths(St.Nick, Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy)all make life for children full of mystery and fun. And that is what we want for our children. I don't believe in any of it and if my kids come to me and ask I tell them the truth.

Hello my friend Anora_Eldorath Ji,
Besides video and amny other factors in support of your discussion, I would only add that it is a belief taht always reminds us that whatever told is correct. After child is born, we start calling child by same address, child picks up and start believeing taht it is correct. It keeps on strenthening as child grows. A tim ecomes when child does not accept, but basic concept remain in his mind. So I think, iot has been passed on from generations and it will keep going on as basic beliefs in others. Thanks.
May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend Anora_Eldorath Ji,
I am happy that you have put in best efforts to understand my feelings. With regards to God, I would only say try and simulate worst conditions either with your experiences Otr go and walk down to down-troddens and find out, how such people came up. It must have been some encouragements from Almighty only that helped to come up. Why at all Children belief, it is because they need some help at taht time. I would strongly belief that whatever religion I am born, it was due to Almighty and none of us have taht booking earlier that one should be born to religion of one's choice. but still I find many changes done to suit their own requirements. So i believe, what I have in-herited from my family and pass on to new generations, provided they agree. I think all those who have negative attitude will go for not believing. It is because they have flactuating mind and like pendulam.
May God bless You and have a great time.

I fail to understand what the point is in making real and believing in something that doesn't exist.
I'm afraid I'm unable to watch the video as the download takes too long on my computer and uses up too much of my broadband allocation
Some people believe because they have "faith". Others believe in something fictional because the magic is very real for them. The magic is also fictional but sets the person's imagination to high degrees of comfort, awe and happiness.

Wow, I really don't know that it could have been said any better. I really do think that the reason that we need to believe in things is so that they are able to become real. In addition to that, I also think that we need to believe in things that aren't necessarily real because they are a coping mechanism for humans. I don't think that I would be the pretty well adjusted person that I am today if I didn't believe in heaven and a power greater than myself.

Dorann-
You bring up a good point with coping. I know for myself I've often lost myself in fantasy novels just for that reason-escape. This world is very cruel at times and being able to escape to a land where all things are possible, where laws are followed, things are set right is a plus to the average nightly news cast in the real world.

Hi dear,
We are living in this century where people have not yet got a conclusion on what to believe and what not. This confused state of mind make us to reach different opinion and conclusions in various things. We got a set of faith and our life is built on this. In various countries, the life over there is different with one another. Typically, everywhere has some kind of similarity in faith, belief etc.
People comments differently form their own experience and researches. But it is not necessary that all what we see and hear are true. Because human mind is not so big enough to know what the life exactly is. We live here upon the external set up what we have here and some books and transmitted stories etc from the ancient times. But all these things and facts are true or falls. If true, how far it is correct?
So such movies and writings are the result of these kind of vague thoughts and result less conclusions only. However, just like all other moves, we need to say, a tale of enjoyment for a few hrs. is the movie meant for and nothing else.
Thank-s

Kalyniji-
Thank you for responding, I'm sorry that the net is being slow. Sometimes Youtube doesn't even open for me because of the amount of traffic. I think that when we believe in such things we form those things in reality. We have a statue of Shiva on our altar creating the Ganges river and it reminds me (personally) that we ourselves can also create if we believe.
Namaste dear near friend.

Its not that they have to need to believe in something. Its called taking a leap of faith, guided with reason. You can't prove or disprove the existence of God, anymore you can with Evolution--in the sense why do some animals evolve more than others, for instance crocodiles, and sharks have hardly changed in the last few million years, and yet others have.
If it does take millions of years to evolve then obviously modern day birds aren't direct descendants of dinosaurs, because dinosaurs went extinct, all in one go, no time for evolution.
