I Really Thought John Was Going To Explode!

Not at me of course. No, he looked as though he was about to explode at this EXTREMELY irritating mother and daughter combo in front of us in the queue at Morrison's for our major food shop. For a start, their shopping was split into what looked like 3 parts. The larger part the daughter was buying, the smaller bits the mother was. Sounds simple to sort out right? WRONG! It took them absolutely ages to sort all this shopping out and they even paid for it seperately as well. Exact change an' all that. The mother was quite old but the daughter spoke to her as though she was a LOT older..in other words, she was patronising. Now, my argument against this sort of behaviour is two-fold:- Firstly, there was no need to seperate the shopping as it caused more confusion than it solved. Secondly, the till receipt is itemised (with prices for each item) so why couldn't they group all the shopping together and settle up afterwards - preferably at home out of the way. I hate this time of year. People who really shouldn't go shopping come out of the woodwork to annoy everyone else. Oh, and the daughter wasn't finished..she started chatting to the "helper" therefore she was holding us up even more, totally oblivious to the huge queue forming at the till. I noticed (afterwards) that in the car park their bags were all going in the same boot! Have you ever come across oblivious shoppers who hold everyone up by their chat/stupid behaviour/life story to the check-out person?

Yesterday, I saw a couple of such people... It was a couple... Must have been recently married... The man certainly didn't have any rights to opinion... The lady (who looked way better than him-must be a model!) was ordering him to pick things... She selected his cloths, shoes n even the underwear... In other sense I would love my lady to do that for me, but with love... Not by commanding and ordering like an army officer... They made quite a scene at the billing too, as the hubby had forgot his card at home...

He is too mild for his raving wife... And he certainly deserve to be treated better... The girl was doing it on purpose, I would say... It seemed as if she wanted to humiliate him every moment... I pity that guy...

I agree some ladies can get scary, for some reason or no reason too... Wonder why, they do that??? Hard for me to tell, as I have never come in personal touch with such ladies... And even if I did, I'd get out of it, asap...

I reckon he probably left his card at home ON PURPOSE. Poor bloke, he didn't deserve that kind of treatment did he?

OH all the time, though I don't have a specific example right this second. I can understand taking a little time to make sure that you've got it right, but not total, selfish, oblivious disregard for the fact that there are people behind you.

I get stressed if I have to stand in line too long too, especially if it's for a bunch of foolishness!

It was funny because John had his back to them, facing me. He was at one end of the trolley and I was opposite. The face he kept pulling was like this and occasionally this. Because he was so stressed (and he makes me laugh..I know I shouldn't) but I felt like doing thisbut stopped myself!

Oh yes... I think there some of those in every town! Being a guy who just likes to get what he wants and get the hell out of there, I would probably be like John. I have seen people having conversations with the cashier and not giving a damn about the queue behind them. In our local supermarket there is one great cashier who has been there several years. She speaks in monosyllables.. OK, not so great for some customers, because she is very business-like. But she doesn't half get her queues down quickly! And everybody seems to try and go for her till when she is on. It's just like.. "Cold today ins't it?" And she'll say "Yes it is" - Well, there's nothing else you can say to that is there? . She'll then get on with checking the things through faster than I can put it in the bags.. and I pride myself on being a pretty fast packer! Being a Zen practitioner however, if I do get stuck in a queue elsewhere, I just accept it, and focus all my attention on well,, just queuing. _Derek

John has problems in Netto sometimes. A cashier in there always asks everybody if they would "like a bag?" The reason for this is they are 5p a time. Most people already have a bag (including John, a rather large one so you can't miss it) but she is programmed so much to say "would you like a bag?" that she never notices. I should imagine she's annoyed a few people with that. Fair enough, if the bags were free it wouldn't matter but we take our own bags out to save money, something Netto should be encouraging!

Something else that annoys me..when someone asks about what/why I am purchasing something. NOt that I am a scrooge or unfriendly, but it seems to happen when I have been waiting in a long line of nothing but people with pricing problems or the like. I had a bag of dog food in my cart. the person behind me asked "do you have a dog?" I mean really...I have the dog food and she asks if I have a dog? So I am annoyed anyway so I say "no" and just turn away. She says "then why are you buying dog food?" I say "cause I like it". The look on her face was priceless and she turned away and didn't bother me anymore and I made it through the rest of the line with a chuckle inside which kept me from going postal in that long long line!

Why didn't they just get seperate carts and ring up seperately and be done with it! What really bugs me is when I am in line and the person in front of me has lots of food...and part is rung up and then paid for. Then the next part is rung up and paid for with FOOD STAMPS! I look at their stuff and it is better than what I can afford! She is buying sirloin and i am buying hamburger! All name brand everything! ANd then of course there is a problem with the stamps for some reason and the person and the cashier have it out and things back and forth and good grief.. they should have a line just for food stamp purchases! They sure do take the longest!

Awkward is giving them credit. I think they just don't care. THat's the way people seem to be anymore!

That will be like our voucher system. Nightmare isn't it? I take your point about having two trolleys, it would've been a whole lot easier that's for sure, but I guess some people just like being awkward.

My sister, enough said. I do not mind them separating stuff and paying separately, but they could have done that while they shopped. I do mind the sharing of all the life story, family secrets and everything else that they make up while the whole world listens in and judges.

These two (especially the daughter) were totally oblivious to everyone around them, including the ever-growing queue. I felt sorry for the staff because (obviously) they're not allowed to say anything. Absolutely no way would I work in a supermarket. My tongue would be bitten in half with all the biting I'd have to do!

All the time. I always seem to get on the wrong line at the supermarket. There is always some type of problem. Either like what you experienced, or someone has a person running to get something they forgot or they are disputing a charge for something. Yesterday while on line though it was taking forever and we couldn't understand what the problem was. When we got to the cashier we found out the lady who was holding everything up realized her pocketbook had been stolen while shopping or online. She left the store without her belonging and crying. Its the holiday season and people are looking each and every way to take what does not belong to them. Shame, shame. I felt really bad for the lady. If I had known what had happened I would have brought the stuff for her.

Oh that's a shame. In that instance you can't help feeling sorry for them can you? Not a nice thing to happen to anybody.
