Have you read about the news pertaining to Suri Cruise, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes 4 year old daughter?
It was reported in a news that Tom and Katie gave Suri her own credit card for the purpose of teaching Suri how to value money since the tot is acting and thinking maturely.
Hence, reports say that the child star is following the footsteps of her parents. She is studying acting and dancing. Thus, she also designs her outfits and at a very young age, she is known to be a fashionista.
Do you think giving the child star a credit card is proper or not? Share to me your opinion.

No, i do not. I think that alot of grown-ups don't need one either. Having them get alot of people in big trouble. I don't use them myself. I figure if i don't have the money to pay for something i will wait & get it when i do.

Most people don't need them because they buy things they can't afford and get themselves into debt. I don't see that happening with the Cruise family.. they can afford anything their hearts desire.. and can afford to pay off their balance every month without breaking a sweat.

HEY KATS, i'm sure they can but don't think a child that age needs one. She'll end up being the spoiled little rich girl like some we hear so much about already. Thanks for your commenet. Have a great day.
Good morning Shattered, i think it's ridiculous what doing things like this can do to a child. I agree w/u to. Have a good one.

I agree with antiquelady on this. Grown-ups have a hard time dealing with credit card issues, how much more a child who doesn't even know the value of money. Yes the Parents can afford the payment but what values are you teaching your child? This should amount to criminal negligence on the part of the banks and the parents

This is outrageous! Don't you have to be of legal age to own a credit card enter into contracts of sale? Since when was the age of four "of legal age?"

I'm sure the account is in her parent's name, so they are responsible for the bill. What I am wondering though is can she sign her signature to the credit card reciept? LOL

She shouldn't be the principal thats for sure if she was, no wonder the american banking system i a mess!
But whether she is a principal card holder or a dependent, as a 4 year old minor, she couldn't LEGALLY transact any business without the consent of her guardians. So it would be an exercise in futility. Unless this is just Tom Cruise's way of gaining more attention. Since the Oprah episode his reputation has plummeted and his movies have failed to come up to expectations after all.

Wow. A CC at 4? What is Tom Cruise thinking? And I know Katie Holmes can't have say on this one because Tom Cruise is an arrogant man.
It's like depriving Suri to experience a good childhood. Giving her some kind of a responsibilty is a good thing but giving her a CC is really... so way beyond foolish.
I am not a parent yet but even if I am as rich as them, I will not allow my child to carry such important card most especially when credit fraud nowadays is so easy and what if Suri left the card somewhere and someone picks it up uses it to his benefit. LOL. Instant charity.
I know Suri is a big star already but she should enjoy her childhood because that's something worth valuable remembering when growing up.

Just because she owns a CC does not mean she is going to be responsible for it. At 4 years old she certainly isn't going to go on any shopping sprees ALONE. She will always have a parent or guardian there to ensure the card is being used correctly, and put away correctly. Also I'm certain the parents have the best lawyers money can buy in case of identity theft or stolen credit card.

Whats the point of having plastic if your not going to be responsible for it? The point is you have to be responsible and of legal age before you start using credit card.
If a guardian will always be with her why not give her an allowance then? To teach her to be responsible with money, it is better not to give a child a credit card right?

She has become a star in her own rights. At 4 I think she has outgrown her age and she will definitely miss her life as a kid. She is growing up abnormally as a kid and her parents giving her a credit card at such a young age is really making her a spoil brat. It is definitely improper to pamper a child that young with a credit card as she might not even know how to use it properly. Looks like this is yet another publicity stunt for the Cruise. The hollywood artists are always competing with each other. It is not surprising as artists thrive on publicity.

Maybe it is proper for Suri to study acting and dancing at that very young age or shall I say tender age. But, giving her the freedom to make use of a credit card is not proper. Although it is reported that the Parents gives her an allowance and they place it on her credit card, still at 4 is so young to handle such kind of responsibility.

My first thought is that this is ridiculous, for any child. At age 4, the extra responsibility is not necessary. And, how is she paying the bill. But, if what they are trying to do works. And, they end up with a very financially savvy young girl then more power to them. The fact that they can do this speaks a lot for their financial situation. I don't have any room for anymore debt in my life, especially credit card charges that are run up by my children. So I wonder if they use the same train of thought when it comes to buying her expensive toys and clothes and things.

OMG, a 4 year old kid has already own a credit card. That is absolutely incredible. If i done my best to stay away from credit card then they just give this easily to a young child who by any chance don't have any knowledge about money yet. I think the child still needs to enjoy her childhood times.
She does not need to be exposed to money yet because everything is been provided for her. The parents were both silly people. If I marry one day and have some kids I will never introduce credit card to them at such a young age.

No, this is just as appropriate as giving her a cell phone, something else she doesn't need. Does this child draw an income separate from her parents? Is she made to read, understand and pay her credit card bills at the end of the month? At her age I seriously doubt it. How can she learn to value money if she doesn't have to deal with the entire process, only sliding the card? Even if they do sit down with her and go over the bill, I doubt she would understand about interests and fees at her age anyway.
What they should have done is given her an allowance, one she would have to work for. Then, when she spends the money she will value it. She will know that she has earned the money, and when it is gone, it is gone. I swear sometimes stars are nuts.

If I had the money her parents had.. why not? The child is going to be spoiled whether she has a credit card or not.. the parents have the cash to pay for whatever she feels like spending it on. I'm sure even without the credit card she'd be able to get anything she wanted. None of us can honestly say that we'd do anything differently if we had their cash. I personally do not want to spoil my children... but I'm also not in a position to spoil them. I'm sure if I had more money they'd be slightly more spoiled.
