Hi there, Last week,my notebook was infected by a worm from a friend's flash drive.I tried to identify this worm, and it turned out to be W32/Splenfbot. You wanna know what effects it did to my notebook?First,it tries to make my antivirus go crazy. At that time, I'm on Microsoft Security Essentials, and it keeps popping up about this worm. After a while,it turns everything crazy.I can't on my notebook, and it keeps restarting.I insert my XP installation CD,and after system files have been copied halfway,it restarts.I'm thinking of losing my notebook since this has been my third year with it,and it never bugs me with problems. Since I am quite caring with my things,I always dust my notebook, both inside and outside. But in this one,my notebook CPU overheats. That's the source of the restarting problem.I took one large fan and open up my notebook, putting the fan below my notebook.I succeeded in installing and formatting the hard drive back, putting an end to the worm. After further research,I found out that the worm alters the heat control mechanism of the CPU.After formatting,no restarting happens. But I'm quite sad.Because the overheating problem destroyed the wireless module as well as touchpad.Damn you who makes the worm. Anyway,I'm on mouse and external USB wireless dongle now.Quite hassle, but nevertheless,I need those functions. Anyone encountered this before?

Hiya! What a nightmare for you! I've not encountered this particular worm, but would it help if you took your computer back to factory settings? This would reset all of the default settings that you had when you first bought your machine. It also gets rid of all your files, unfortunately, but hopefully you would have most of them backed up to replace them. Then, do a search for Malwarebytes virus removal software. Their domestic version is free to download - but make sure you're on the Malwarebytes website to ensure a safe copy. It has gotten rid of viruses on my laptop which can't be dealt with by the software that I bought, best thing I ever did was getting it. Good luck - I hope you get it sorted.

I was considered lucky enough to fix it,since it causes heck of problems. It is running fine now.Like you said,I installed Malwarebytes where I obtained the piece of software from a friend, since I can't open any antivirus webpages.Well,at least I gained some knowledge about this particular worm and be more careful next time. Thanks for your response Louc74.Have a nice day!
