Do you guys know that you can't create folder with name con on any systems using operating system windows( any windows like windows xp, windows 95, windows 7)? There are many other words that we can't use to name or rename folders on windows. It says the specified device name is invalid. If you are using windows.. you may try it now and see if u can. The reason i found is that they are reserved words.

I know that. Con is a very old device name (con:), it's from dos. Probably you can't create a folder with name tty, prn I didn't tried you could try. Probably these words are mantained for compatibility with old programs

Are u kidding? Con is old file name. Old?? And you are wrong we can create file with name tty. The words with which we can't create or rename files are con,prn,aux,nul,com1,com2,com3,com4,com5,com6,com7,com8,com9,lpt1,lpt2,lpt3,lpt4,lpt5,lpt6,lpt7 because they are all reserved device file names and not old device name.

I didn't say that con is anold file name, I said is an old device name, you could find it on msdos. Sorry with tty, that's from linux

oh! that was my mistake too.. i mean to say old device name. it is actually device file name. thanks and happy mylotting dude

some folder and files names that we can't create in windows. this is due to these names are used by microsoft in sys. files. we create con name folder but we have to put " ' " before it means its like - 'con.

They are reserved by design so that the software recognizes their function.

You can't do that, since "con" is a reserved device name inherited from DOS. It's a very old convention, it refers to the keyboard. The same happens with lpt, com, prn, and many others, all are old device names kept reserved for compatibility reasons.

your gambit is too vocational to response you about folder. your means is that create folder name'suffix is not .con???
