How to turn a house into money making?

I bought a house a few years ago. For more than two years I have been staying here. Well due to financial constrance I have not done any renovation to the house. I am a bachelor and the house has three rooms. I did thinking of renting one of the rooms, the the room which is at the back of the house. Until today nobody respond to my advertisement. I found out that nowadays people like to rent the whole house. Now the problem is I still need to stay in the house. I just want to rent the room in my house. Other than that the main purpose I bought this house is to wait for the price to go up and then I sell it in order to buy new and better house. I am not really good in property investment that is why my house is just a house without giving me any extra money from it.
