Bad animal owners

One day last week I got a text from my stepson. This in itself was a very unusual occurrence. He saw a dog get hit by a car and stopped to help it. He happened to know which house it came from, as he had seen it outside previously with the owner as it happened only 3 blocks from our house. He knocked on the door and the guy who answered could have cared less. He said that he had just woken up and he would take care of the dog "later". J told him that the dog couldn't wait until later. An older couple, think grandparents, had also stopped. They agreed with J that the pup needed medical attention now. J told the guy that if he wasn't going to take the pup to the hospital right away, he would. The guy got really defensive and said "don't tell me what to do with my own d**n animal!" J just turned around and started towards his car still holding the animal. The guy tried to stop him. J again asked if he was going to take him to the hospital right away. He said no, because it would cost him money.
J again started towards his car. The guy yelled that he would call the cops about him taking his animal. The grandpa man told J to just go and take the pup to the vet. Grandma whipped out her cell and called the cops while J left. J gave his number to them in case the cops had questions and then left.
Well, about an hour later he texted me that the pup had died at the vet hospital pretty much in his arms. Later, the cops called and J told them the whole story. He is not in any trouble. But neither is the pet owner.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pets.

People like this guy should of been arrested for ignoring the medical needs of the puppy! What a piece of crap that guy is! People like him are nothing but trouble! It amazes me that people like him are able to own animals! They are the ones who end up abusing and neglecting pets! It makes me sick! Really sick! I hope this jerk never ends up owning a pet again!

J said that he has seen several other dogs at this person's house. I am just glad that the other man stopped too, so that J could go. I think the owner was considering stopping him physically.
I hate how cruelty to animals gets a slap on the wrist in the courts. In the UK and other places probably, if you are convicted of certain offenses against animals, you are banned for life from owning another pet.

Sad to hear of such incidents of callous indifference meted out to poor animals. Rearing pets has become a showcase of vanity for some people, whereas for some others it is playful recreation by the end of a tiring day. So much so that some of them even go to the extent of having them replaced soon after they die, carrying few strains or stings of bereavement.
Unless this attitude changes and pets will be looked after with the same care and nurture as one's own kids, there will be little assurance against such incidents repeating in the future. God bless the hapless souls and rest them in peace.
And hats off to your stepson!

It's a sad fact when a stranger will care more for an animal than the obvious owner does. it makes you feel sorry for the animal. i would not feel sorry for the owner.

I hate when I see people with pets that they can't, or just don't, take care of. If you buy an animal or adopt it, you should not only take care of it, but love it. Give it attention. Don't neglect it and ignore it. What's the point of having a pet, otherwise? Unfortunately, I've seen many cases with family and friends where they'll have a pet and they either just find it an annoyance or they don't pay attention to it at all. It makes me sad. :(
