Which is bigger WORLD or EARTH..?

certainty the world.earth is only a celestial body.but world contains human relation and other things.

depends on the context of the sentence hard to define in general someone's world can be his/her life, interests, community and network or it can be his/her reality, a realm he lives in and interact with other beings while Earth is just Earth, a planet in the solar system I wouldn't say one is bigger than the other but I can say that we can define boundaries of Earth and not world

In my opinion, EARTH is bigger than WORLD. Earth is a planet. World is a subset of earth. At least when we talk about the world, we are referring to things residing in or within this planet Earth.

hi siliguri I think it all boils down to the earth as a body, a land mass. the world includes the land on which it resides bvut the world if that of people, and animals, birds, insects, and plants and trees which people the earth. the world is larger as it encompasses human, animals and plants and trees, all the things tghat live or redside on this planet beneath our feet.

This is really confusing man. I also dont know the exat answer. But i think world is digger. By world i dont know what all things come under it.I think in the world also only earth comes. But the word gives a feeling that it is bigger than the earth.

World is bigger for sure! In our world, there is sun, there is moon, there is water and there is earth. And of course much more! So do you see it now? The good news for us Indians is that our fellow citizen just won the Miss Earth yesterday. Woohooo!

I assume that the world is the universe and if so, the universe is obviously bigger. Nowadays, when people say 'the whole world', it could mean the whole Earth, every continent in it. So basically, if you say world and Earth, both should mean the same. But if you mean that the world means Universe, then it's Universe

Hi Siliguri, Technically both are same. But for many and from the usage point there are differences and I can summarize them as - WORLD = EARTH + WATER(Seas,Oceans) + ICE (Arctic and Antarctic) Traditionally earth means land which can be used for living and the world is the complete planet.

I think the World is bigger- it can be any space. the Earth is definite, just this whole spherical planet...but the world is much broader (like world of animal, the galaxy,etc).. That's what I understand.

The word 'world' is a common noun which has as wide variety of meaning, where as the word 'Earth' is a proper noun which is the 3rd planet in the solar system.. both words 'world' and 'earth' pertains the place that we live... so i think world and earth are both the same.. Both world and earth also has the same size.. what your elder was asking is about the pageant Miss Earth and Miss World.. Well I think is not about the size that your elder is asking about because they basically are of equal size.. Here's the catch... Miss Earth and Miss World are two different beauty pageants.. Miss World is one of the oldest surviving beauty pageants which started in 1951 founded by Eric Morley in UK.. Where as Miss Earth is one of it's rival pageant which was funded by United Nations to promote environmental projects.. Miss Earth started in 2001 and has always been held in the Philippines.. I know this doesn't serve as an answer to your question.. but both beauty pageants are of the same cause.. so i think they both are BIG and prestigious pageants...

World refers to the human population, other living organism and the entire planet itself. On the other hand, Earth is the name of the Planet and the only one among others which life do exists. Ms. Earth or Ms. World are just equally the same title for me given by two independent organizations. They are both founded to generate income and popularity in the society.

well in fact its a nice question to irritate someone though...they are the same i guess..but may be according to pure literature world refers to the sum of everything including all living and non living things above the earth...and earth would only relate to the sum of land and water masses..

Dear friend, Which came first the hen or chicken, may be the because of people in world we came to know of earth. Hence I feel that world is bigger even though they are same in size. If there is no world still earth may remain, even if all living things die, the earth remains as a planet in the galaxy.

I agree with you that the earth and the world are the same size. When someone refers to Earth as a planet then they are referring to our world. Everything outside of our world/earth is called the Universe. I have never head of the Miss Earth competition, only the Miss World competition, therefore I cannot be sure but maybe they rank the people in the competition on different qualities?

This is our planet Earth but we call it our World because this is where we live...there are other planets there and they would be other people's worlds...sooo at the end of the day they are both the same!

World means the earth plus the society of human in my understanding. I think they two concepts are different in category. World is in the sociology while earth is in geography. If I must tell which of them is bigger, I think the world is bigger. And sometimes the world means the whole space. It's a good question which can make me thinking even the meaning of life.

Tsk tsk, siliguri, the earth is our some planet and the world is everything that takes place in it. Don not get all confused by these pageants. These are just income earning venues and plain entertainment.

well, basically i would say both are same and equal.But if we are to discuss in depth then i think earth is natural and world is what we human make on earth. And the reason for separate contest of Miss earth and Miss world could possibly be because they want to have two versions of same competition. So they definitely can't have same title.
