Have you ever gotten chewed out at work and then found out you were right!

On Friday, an Account Manager called me and started talking down to me, telling me off, while telling me that my office that I run has already has a process in place for helping travelers from other countries. When I disagreed she asked me how did you become a manager??? I wanted to either hang up or tell her off but could not. It came out right before I left on Friday that she was completely wrong! I feel vindicated but want an apology from her. Do you think I am wrong? Have you ever been in a similar situation?

I can relate to your situation. More often than not people that do so have nothing to back them up but their attitude thats the reason why they take that stance because if the facts are presented it would be clear that they are wrong. I would suggest you take the higher road. Don't stoop down to their level. You already know you are right.

Thanks. No I won't go to her level. When she attacked me in an email that went out to my boss, a supervisor who reports to me and even an agent I just emailed back to all that her email was uncalled for and if she wanted to discuss the issue she can call my direct number. I will not get into a back and forth email thing. When you deal with a person that is high up in the company you realize and learn how not to manage people. It makes you take a hard look at how you deal with your employees. It is a learning experience. That's how I look at it. It will make me stronger for my next job.

That's good to hear that. Experience is after all the best teacher.

You should get an apology. I have been in a situation like this more than once. My old manager would yell at me because she would tell me I filled out paper work wrong and I would have to explain to her a billion times why it was filled out a certain way and finally she would be like ohhh... she did always of course apologize to me though.

That is so frustrating! Thankfully she is not my direct boss or I would have left right away. When you are unhappy at work it makes life pretty miserable. It also teaches me how not to manage people!

Happens a lot of times in my work. And to most of us employees, not just me. And, the boss won't even admit that he's wrong or apologize for that matter! And the worst thing? He'll be claiming as his own our ideas, even if he was so adamant about them in the first place. So, I agree that your boss needs to apologize to you. But, if she is like my boss, that apology will never happen. At least, both of you know who was right after all.

They must be related!! Everyone in my office hates her and cringes when she comes to visit or calls. Thankfully she is not my direct boss. I agree - the apology will never come but I am satisfied that knowing I was right and in knowing that others saw that I was also right.

You need not to. Everyone else might have known that you are right anyway and that alone proves the kind of person she is. Just let it be, I am pretty sure everyone knows you were on the right track anyway!you just made her EAT her words!

I used to work in this condition every day, my manager was an older lady who was very set in her ways. Any introduction of new thought to a process was like blasphemy! Thankfully I no longer work there, I don't think I could have survived another year with her, two was enough for me. Now I have a good job with actual benefits and the ability for advancement and it never would have had happened had she never berated me so much that I decided to quit.

Good for you for getting out! I have been looking for another job for a few months but the job market has shriveled up. I have even been looking in a few other states.
