Exercise time!

Hi myLotters!
Exercise is a very important part of staying healthy and it's something we all should do, since it has a lot of beneficial effects... but it seems that not many people like exercising (myself included :P), they find it too troublesome or boring or whatever.
So, I was wondering: do you exercise? If so, how often and what do you do (go running, swimming, to the gym...?)? Do you prefer exercising indoors or outdoors? Are there any things you do to make exercising more fun or nicer (such as listening to music, for example)?
As for myself, I don't exercise much even though I know I should, but when I do, I prefer doing it outdoors, as in going hiking in the forest (there's nothing like nature and fresh air!), or going swimming. Also, I think exercise is much nicer if you do it like a game (for example, playing football instead of just going running), or if you listen to music while doing it.
So... what about you guys? :)

I do have an EXERCISE TIME. Personally, aside from making my metabolism faster, exercise helps in my anxiety problem. My exercise is only walking, but I found it so rewarding afterwards, especially if you do it with a buddy or a friend. While doing brisk walking me and my buddy chats so we don't noticed how long the distance we already took. I got lesser feeling of weakness or fatigue and I now have a sound sleep during the night, thus I woke every morning feeling great!

That's so true! Just taking a walk with a friend and chatting can be really beneficial too and a form of exercise, you don't realize how much you've been walking indeed but you walk a lot nonetheless. It's really nice that this is also helping you with your anxiety, I hope it goes well for you.
Thanks for your reply and take care! :)

Just before I came across this discussion, someone had this message on my mobile I would like to share with you.
1. If walking is good for your health, the postman would be immortal.
2. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks only water but is still fat.
3. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years.
4. A turtle doesn't run, does nothing .. yet lives for 450 years.
TO HELL WITH EXERCISE!
Finally, it asked me to Sleep Well... Eat Well... have a long life.
I know it is not true, but what you think?

Hi, I exercise daily in the morning exactly at 6 am, I prefer outdoor but since I live in a city and there are no parks around me and I'm forced to do it indoors.
My usual regime starts with warm up (skipping, yogic jogging, capoera,) and then onto stretches , first my upper body then my legs and inner thighs.
Then I get onto the serious stuff like crunches, push ups, sit ups, squats, etc.
Finally I end it with 15 minutes of yoga and Tai chi.
All the above takes about an hour.

Wow, 6am would be way too early for me, I'm not a morning person at all. But it's great that you do so and take it so seriously! It's unfortunate you can't exercise outdoors though... but yeah, I guess that's the problem with living in a city.
Thank you for your post, take care!

I also really hate to exercise usually because it is always so boring to me. One that I do enjoy doing though is using a Wii Fit. I can usually play the games for quite a while without getting bored and get some good activity in my day that way. Except I haven't set it up again since I moved, so it's been over a month since I used it.
I have also signed up for a yoga membership because this yoga place near me was running a special for new members. I am trying to make it my goal this week to start that membership and try to go to at least 2 yoga classes per week. I have poor circulation and I thought this might help me. I inherited varicose veins from my dad and I read that exercise and yoga is very helpful for strengthening veins and preventing them from bulging out.
Also, I suspect that exercise would be more fun and easier to stick with if you can do it in a group. For example, if you joined a hiking club, you would have the encouragement of others to exercise and incentive to do it on a regular basis since you would probably have scheduled meeting times for the activity. Also, the social aspect would make it more enjoyable and help pass the time.

I also think 'regular' exercise (as in, going running or to the gym) can be quite boring, but playing games can make it much better. Using the Wii can be a really good way, since it makes you move around and be active.
Yoga sounds nice, I've been thinking about doing that too.
Yeah, that can be true indeed... I guess exercising alone can be quite boring indeed. I go hiking in the forest with my dad, and besides a chance to exercise it's also a nice way of spending time together :)
Thank you for your response, and take care!

Hi! I know when you hear or talk about exercise, you think about gym or sports. But I believe that I can actually exercise everyday by just doing household chores. I do it like 2 or 3 hours intensely everyday and by that I can lose a lot of calories and stay fit. I'm the one who wash the dishes, I'm the one who laundry my clothes, iron my clothes, clean the whole house. That's exercise! That is why I don't get fat even I eat like a big guy.

That's so true indeed! As long as you stay active and move around you're already exercising indeed... and on top of that you get some work done, that's killing two birds with one stone! :)

Yes exercise is very important for your body and it helps you keep in shape keeps you healthy.I exercise regularly and feel that you need around half an hour to an hour of activity in order stay healthy.Things that I do to stay healthy are go jogging, lifting weights at the gym , and biking when the weather allows me to.I sometimes do not get a chance to exercise due to he fact that I am in college and work part time but I try to get at least a few hours a week and more if time permits me to.Exercise is important to living long and well and without it your body will quickly get out of shape and will be more vulnerable to illnesses.

That's very true! A good way to exercise if you don't have time going to the gym or playing sports and such is to just walk, so to speak. Like you said, 30 minutes a day of activity is a very good thing.
Thanks for your reply, take care! :)

Personally I am overweight and I know it is because of my lack of exercise, but I don't fret because I am working on it. As soon as I can get to a point in my life where I can afford the time spent to focus on exercising I will get into shape, I just hope its not too late

I guess lack of time is also a big reason why people don't exercise... but maybe you can try things such as walking at least 30 minutes a day, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator... all those simple things, so to speak :)
