how to dry and style curly hair?

I recently got my hair digitally permed so now I have curly hair. The problem is I can't get it to look the way it was when the stylist did it. It still looks pretty good even if I don't do anything to it. The problem is, event though it looks good even without product and without styling, my hair kind of looks like a mess to me. My friends tell me that it looks cute, but to me it looks messy and unkempt. That's probably because I'm used to having sleek and straight hair. So any advice for me? I would really appreciate it.
