i'm a big fan of the tv show lost, and i was devistated when the series finally finished. the only thing i don't understand is why jack decided to stay back with the island? i mean, i know that he felt it was his duty to protect the island, but wouldn't of it been a better idea for him to get on the plane and go home? he would of been able to live another 40 years and get married, or keep working at the hospital. i'm not complaining about the fact that he died, i'm just saying i think his choice was a bit stupid

Jack had to defeat the thing impersonating Locke otherwise it would have escaped into the world. Once he was made the protector of the island, he couldn't leave.

Perhaps you are lucky. The last season ran two alternate stories, one being what would have happened if the plane did not crash. Much of that did not make any sense. Jack had been married to Juliet. Sawyer was supposed to be a cop whose partner was Miles. In the alternate story, different people know each other yet they did not know each other when they met on the island. I could only rationalize the alternate story again as part of Jack's dying mind.
