Our dog is getting older and we don't think he will be with us much longer. We are not sure whether we should get a new dog before this one passes on or not. It doesn't seem fair to the dog we have now to bring a new dog into the house, yet we don't want to be without one. What are your thoughts on this?

I will get same breed of dog like my dog now.I will train her/him the same way I trained my old dog.I treat him/her just the way I treated my old dog.

Awwh sorry to hear about your dog. I see your point about it not being fair as you are very loyal to your dog. Maybe and just my opinion you should hold off a while, simply because he may be saddened by yet another new best friend in the home and feel depressed somehow.
Surely a new dog later could easily be obtained, so my thinking is it is probably best to wait until later. As this way what time you have to dedicate to your pets you can completely spend the time with the one you have.
Good luck and I am so sorry to read that your home best friend has gotten older..

I think this is a difficult choice as well. Unfortunately, I think it would have been best to get a new dog before your current dog had gotten so old that it is close to passing on now, so that they could have bonded and both would have gotten equal attention.
I'm not sure that it would be best to get a new dog now especially if your current dog is in poor health. Is it just old or does it have health problems?
