which is better than one another?

I want to create a website for general purpose. But my friends have said and advised me to start a blog. They say that creating blog has many advantages. But iam interested in creating web sites. So which one is better , whether to create website, or to create a blog.

Many blogs can be manipulated to look and function like ordinary websites and websites that can have blog aspects in them.
What you need to look at is who your target market is, what they need and how can you deliver this to them.
Once you got those answers you can start looking at whether to develop a blog or website

It depends on your purpose of having or making one of either...If your purpose is to keep your visitors informed about your updates, it is better to make a blog. Nevertheless, if your main purpose is to open an online shop for instance, a website will be more appropriate...However, both are interchangeable and it does not really matter what type of media you wanted to use as long as your main agenda is achieved...Hope this helps...
