I am wondering the same thing as the first responder on this discussion. Why do you ask for only brief answers? This is a discussion site, so we are actually encouraged to expand on our responses and comments to further the discussion. There are times when a short response to a discussion is appropriate, but myLot actually discourages discussions that can be answered with only a few words (see the DONTS section of the Guidelines http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx to verify this) as that is not really the purpose of the site.
To answer your discussion, though, I think that any country can be affected by racism. However, I think that it is becoming less over time as knowledge about the customs and cultures of other countries becomes more prevalent and contact with people of others cultures and countries becomes easier to do with the Internet and other technologies.

I definitely agree that the tools that we have now which lead to a vast amount of information at our fingertips in minutes or even seconds, such as the Internet, help to empower people and help to pave the way to reduce racism. I do not think that racism will ever be completely eliminated, because people will choose to dislike others for many different things no matter how much knowledge is available to them. Still, I do believe that it will help many people to realize that we are not as different as we might have originally thought, which I feel will help bridge the gap and reduce many instances of racism.

it seems racism is a decision that people who are different (from self?) are inferior.
it seems racism can be eliminated by empowerment and learning that all people in the world deserve just and fair treatment
"Kindness - we all need it (from self and from others), we all need to give it (to self and others)." - *
What do you think ?

I do agree that knowledge and empowerment (at least in the way that it lets people make decisions for themselves based on their own investigation and experiences) goes a long way towards reducing the instances of racism. I think that many cases of racism are based on either fear due to lack of knowledge about other people and cultures or are inherited (passed down through the generations) because that is what the children are brought up to believe. In fact, I know some people that thought they were racist, because that is what their parents taught them to believe. When they got older and more independent and had their own experiences and made their own decisions, they realized that they really weren't racist after all. They realized that there were nice people and nasty people in the world, and skin color, religion, ethnicity, etc. had no bearing on whether or not a person was nice or nasty, because there are good and bad in everyone and each person gets to decide for himself or herself which path he or she will choose.

Racism is when you discriminate against somebody because of the color of their skin or their religion. True racism does not allow for any change of human condition as it relates to rights, freedom or progress. You can see a person do something and then lump them into a category that all the same race does the same thing. Its called stereotyping today but its a lighter form of racism.

The higher cast Hindus hate the lower cast people of same community. The white people hate the blacks. This is racism. To me India is the worst racist country.

The definition of racism is "the belief that one race is superior to another." It is a subset of ethnocetricims which is the belief that one group is better than another. Thus, a Black person can be racist against his own kind when he'd rather go to a White doctor than a Black doctor (not because of works but because of belief.) I think every country in the world is effected by racism and ethnocentricism (Bosnia for example) since Europeans "discovered", "colonized", and everything else and made it look like only White people did anything of substance which is why we in America started with Black history week and now have Black history month. Now we're seeing people of other races who have done things for this world. It will take a long time for racism to go away.

Racism can be about anything, though it's mainly about race and skin color. For instance, most europeans doesn't like blacks, people with dark skin. The same goes for some australians too, they are proud of their skin color and whoever are different, are often seen as a lower class.
Racism happens in alot of countries though it rarely happens in asia countries, while it's quite common in malaysia as well as some others.

You remind me Sanitary, of how I heard that in some Asian countries, Whiter shaded Asian women are placed above darker shaded ones. When I worked at the amusement park years ago, a girl from Singapore joked how her friend from Thailand (who was actually lighter than both of them) had dark skin. I laughed and she gave me a dirty look. They seemed to be ashamed of having the melanin in their skins. From my experiences though, I've worked many places and have seen the racism against folks from India, Asia, and American Indians. The racism might look worse against Blacks but don't fool yourself. The only group of people I've seen hated worse than Blacks was the group called Jews.

Racism exists in all countries around the world. Racism happens when one is being insulted or being discriminated against because of his race or color.
This happens every where and sometimes unintentionally. When we don't respect another person's race, we are being racist.
