Is it possible or better to respond to each and every discussion ...

I was wondering whether it would help us post more if we begin responding to all the discussions one after the other, without wasting time . In my own case after I log in, I sift through the top discussions, then friends discussions etc and may be respond to a few. I take a lot of time to do this. Today , I was thinking whether I should just start responding to discussions from my interest or friends started or top discussions , without bothering to select and be choosy . Do you all do the same ? I mean choose only a few discussions while wasting a lot of time going through the discussions?

I don't tend to look for the top discussions, but I am notified by e-mail when friends start a discusion. I will then respond to any discussions that I feel I can add some value to. I don't like to try and think up something to say. If I have nothing to add to a discussion, then I don't respond at all. _Derek

Hi derek, I too find the email notifications very helpful, since we get to know all the latest discussions our friends have started .I dont think that we can add our views unless we have some knowledge to do so, is the case with all of us - all the best and happy mylotting

"I don't like to try and think up something to say." I really like how you put that, and I must agree with you. There will be days when I have several tabs open and I know that I could respond to any one of them, but it just takes too much effort to try to think about how I want to phrase something to get my point across or not to offend someone or whatever. Then there are other times when I open a discussion and can just jump in and start responding all over it without any effort, and those are the days when I not only have the most fun but also tend to have the most earnings.

Interested Question is this. It is possible to comment and Write articles which can benefit to the people, If you start healthy discussion, it will be responded by every person.. so rather to respond to every discussion we have to make valuable comments or discussion, so that every body could be attacked by this effort.

Hi khanzee, thanks a lot for the response ! The best thing to do is to start a good discussion which gets many comments and then to respond to them, that way you dont waste time sifting through discussion topics and wasting precious time - all the best and have a nice evening

Earlier when I was active here and would log in daily...I had a routine...first sift through my friend's discussions...choose the ones I was interested in responding to....go through comments in my discussions...then go through the latest discussions. But for the past two years, I come in here on and off and am not regular.
Right now, I'm working on the backlog...going through the Digest and checking which I will be interested in to respond....but first I do the ones my friends have started.

Hi dawnald, short and to the point as always - I guess finally we all end up doing that - this was just a thought that I had and I find some positive results after i made certain changes in my pattern of responding here - all the best and thanks a lot

Hi Kiran,
Yes, i do some indulging in discussion review and worse, respond to only one often-because its time to sleep. Phew, the last month or so has been hectic.
To come back to the point, I need some motivation to respond. I just cannot take part in a discussion which says' My bf/gf is jealous when he sees me with other boys/girls. Does your gf/bf do the same.
I think your idea is good. Let's form a sort of virtual forum where some interesting topics are discussed say each for a month. That way we won't wate time. The topics can be anything even say 'global warming' or 'England's failed bid' or ...well anything but nothing vulgar.

Hi serubhai, LOL I too stay away from Bf/gf issues simply because I have nothing really to add . But I realised that there were days when I have been on mylot for 2 hours and have responded to may be 3 or 4 discussions. But once I became mentally prepared to respond to more discussions I have been able to do that - thanks a lot for the participation and have a nice evening

I use the 'New' discussions screen the most (in fact it's one of my Home pages). I don't respond to every discussion by any means. Considering that there are an average of 24 discussions an hour (and that maybe 5% to 10% of these will be deleted for Guideline violations), it would be quite impossible and ridiculous to respond to every discussion, especially as some have no interest whatsoever for me and others are too trite to bother with.
I choose discussions in which I might have an interest, and to which I can expect to write a paragraph or two, from the main titles and open a tab for each. Then I go ahead and respond to those I have open. By then, there is usually a fresh crop and I start over. Sometimes there is nothing at all to which I feel I can contribute and I go away and do other stuff for a bit.

Hi owlwings, thanks a lot for your views I too have been selective all this while and after being here for more than 3 years I have quite a small number of points and discussions to my credit. This got me thinking as to whether I was being far too selective and change my modus operandi , and go ahead and respond to discussions from any one of the categories - my own favorite is my interests ...I also make it a point to respond to at least one discussion with no responses - all the best and happy mylotting

I get email notifications from Mylot for each post of my friends. I do those and then usually do the daily Mylot Digest as well that I also get emailed to me. Then after that I go to the site and i go to my interests and friends and see what the top posts are. I need to set up more posts myself but don't do that very often.

Hi kiran, my first preference is my friends. First I try to respond the discussions of my friends. Then I go to the top discussions. I also respond to unknown persons discussions. So that the person may make me his or her friend. But now a days I'm irregular in myLot. I'm missing my friends.

Hi bhanu, thanks a lot for your response, that seems to be the standard mode adopted by most members and I guess it is the most practical approach as well !I too make a it a point to respond to at least a couple of unanswered discussions . How come you are irregular bhanu? busy with work ? For that matter last week or two I too have been away - all the best and have a great week ahead bhanu

I have actually thought the same thing, especially recently. There have been many times when I have had too many discussions that interested me and not enough time to respond to all of them in one day, especially when I am commenting in many response boxes and trying to keep up with counter-comments. On these days, the time flies by, and I make a "mental note" to go back to the discussions that I found interesting but didn't have time to respond to the previous day.
Lately, though, I haven't had much time to be on here. The little time that I have had to be here, I have been having a difficult time finding discussions that capture my interest. I might spend an hour on here and not even type a single comment or response, which really feels like a waste of time. Worse than that, when I do find discussions that I respond to, it saddens me when I check back and do not get a single comment to my response. I know that I still get paid for my response, but that really was not the point of responding. If it was, then I wouldn't "waste" those other days reading discussions without adding a single comment. At these times, I really question whether or not I should change my priorities and just make it about the money and respond to almost anything just to earn a cent or two. Unfortunately, I know myself too well, and I know that would not make me happy, and eventually I would dread coming on here, because it would feel more like a "chore" than a fun interlude in my day.

Hi purple, What you say makes sense, and I agree with you wholeheartedly !If we can balance out, then it really is nice. I find that when I start a discussion and , get a lot of responses, i am able to earn better, at the same time enjoying the interaction, without having to search for discussions and wasting my time - all the best and have a nice weekend

A friend of mine on here actually started a discussion about something similar. In her discussion, she pointed out that if there is a lengthy discussion that really makes people want to respond, then a person can spend an entire day commenting and counter-commenting within one discussion and not only have a lot of fun but also earn a nice little sum of money at the same time. Also, that person does not have to "waste time" reading through discussions trying to find ones that they want to respond to, so it is a time efficient method as well.

I would say choose your discussions well. You wouldn't have much to say in discussions outside of your interest and have little knowledge about. You would end just saying "never thought about that" or "great" but with no real meaning to our response. I also give preference to discussions started by my friends after looking at all that interests me. of course with a discussion topic as successful as this one, It would be hard enough commenting on all the responses
But I guess if you're well versed in a lot of things, then why not? The more you participate the more you earn right?

Hi shattered, very true, unless one has something constructive to add to a discussion topic, there is no point in responding , but again as you say one can never be sure unless one tries out new things- thanks a lot for your response and all the best

I tried it once, but it took me too much time thinking of what to post on a discussion I knew nothing about! Better to choose still

I dont think it is possible to response to each and every single post. That will take way too much time. Beside, some of the topic might not be something that you know about and contributing to it might be seen as a spam to some people. So instead, I will focus on a few topics which i have knowledge it and contribute to it.

I suppose thats what most of us members do, select a few discussions after going through pages of discussions in different categories and end up responding to very few discussions - thanks a lot for the response sjlskl, aeiou - all the best and happy mylotting

I have tried posting on all discussions without being selective, but it doesn't really work out unless you have extra time on your hands. It's much better to find a post that suits your interests and your knowledge, because this way you get the conversation going, and you have a chance of making a much more productive post. What i usually do now is check my interests first, then i check the discussions under the "discussion" tab. It does waste a lot of time, but i believe that it is better to post in topics you understand.

Hi cryox, it is interesting, what you say ! I too tried it yesterday and found that I was actually looking for only those topics that interest me, so I was back to where I was, except that I did make an effort to choose some out of the topics and found them equally interesting ...all the best and thanks a lot for your response

kiran there are hundreds of discussions so no way could we respond to all of them besides q uality is what pays bot inane responses to discussions that do not even interest you. do less positng and do it better and you will re ally earn, get in a hurry and you just wase your time. better six responsed that are intelligent and
understandable then 30 responses of just a few inane words thast add nothing to anything. qu ality is what earns on mylot.what you type that is quality is m uch better than a lot of junky responses that willnot pay you one red cent. quality wins all the time.

Hi Hatley,That's absolutely true, agree with you 100%. Initially when I joined mylot, I had no idea how to go about posting and so my responses were brief and to the point and when I went though some of them the other day I felt like laughing. We all learn as we go along...Always better to have something worthwhile to share than just make a post - thanks a lot for sharing your views, have a nice weekend

Hi Memnon, thanks a lot for the response, It is no doubt impossible to respond to all the discussions that get posted here, but if one does a systematic job of it, probably you end up responding to many more than you usually manage to do - all the best and have a nice evening

today, i am the first time to join mylot, and this is my first time to respond the discussion here, first of all , very interesting. second, i think we can respond to the discusstion that we are interested, because it can express our idea about this discussion and get the same feeling in each other.
