For all the USA people on here, did you hear much about Pearl Harbor today? Today is the 'date which will live in infamy" and yet I barely heard mention of it. I know we live in an era where kids in this country barely know what pearl harbor is.
It seems that since the attacks of 9/11, Pear Harbor has been largely forgotten. On Septermber 11th just about everyone's facebook status in my friends list said something about the attacks, never forgetting, etc. And while I whole-heartedly agree with this and feel it is a day that our country should NEVER forget, I am shocked by what I saw today.
I didn't hear one mention on the radio, and I didn't see one post on facebook about it. This date was a date that changed our country and changed our world. It is a huge part of our history and I believe it should not be forgotten, so I wanted to mention it here.

I disagree, remembering Pearl Harbor and what happend to our soldiers and citizens that day has nothing to do with our relationship with Japan right now. We should always remember this day in history.

People just don't remember-we weren't around when it happened, so people just...begin to forget. CNN had one article up about it. My boyfriend was leaving work today and an older gentleman asked him why the flag was at half-mast. Thankfully, my boyfriend knew.
In all honestly, 70 years from now 9/11 will probably get the same response. We talked about it two years after, and my history teacher mentioned that one of the students in his other class over 50 years from now no one will remember, or, if they do, won't make a huge deal about it. When he asked us if anyone knew what happened on Dec 7, I was the only one that could answer. Because it's not a major holiday and kids don't get off of school, chances are they won't learn about it in great detail. Sad, but kind of true. I almost posted something on 9/11 asking people if they remember 12/7.

I hear about it every year. That's the day my husband's family came to the US.
Well that was a wee bit off topic. I didn't hear much about it, but there was an article in the local paper about two local men who were actually there. So not totally forgotten.

Pearl harbor Day is indeed a day that will go down in history. it marked such a significant time that should be honored and remembered. I didn't hear as much about that day this year as i have had in the past. I hope this does not mean the event is fading from our minds.
