Peanuts- Do you like peanuts? Are you allergic to them? Some people are allergic to peanuts and I am one of those who are allergic to steamed groundnuts. It is absolutely divine with salt in it.But I get a migraine when I consume this and so I do not take it. However it is recommended that one takes jaggery after eating peanuts and this is a safeguard against migraine.I love roasted peanuts and have jaggery along with this.
Do you know that consuming a small portion of jaggery is an effective antidote ?
This is an age-old remedy .

Hi Kala!
I love peanuts all the time. Though people say that we should not take peanuts in summer, but if you offer me peanuts even in summer, I will accept it gladly. I think there are some qualities of peanut which are full of oil, and we take those kind of peanuts, it takes longer to digest. However, I agree with you that taking jaggery would be good idea to digest and neutralize the side affects of peanuts. In Delhi, it is winter season and people could be find breaking the shells of roasted peanuts, while basking in the sun.

Hullo Deepak! Nice to see all friends here today.Everyone loves peanuts and it is such a wonderful tasty, nutritious thing. I too would relish it any time of the year. I don't take steamed peanuts but I have roasted peanuts and with jaggery. I agree thta some peanuts are essentially ful of oil and of course anything in excess would cause trouble.THnaks a lot for dropping by. It is wonderful to see old friends here.

Hi Kala
Can you imagine that by the time i was reading your discussion,i was eating peanuts.
I am blessed that i am not allergic to peanuts and i just love them roasted.
I consume them more in winters because they are readily available .Ya i have also heard that eating jaggery after peanuts is good.It can save you from allergies and sore throat and also helps you to digest everything.

I am fine Kirti and the little one is so cute . He has a pretty little dimple on his plumpy cheek and I saw him during Diwali. My son had gone there [to his inlaws'place]to celebrate his anniversary and sent some pictures. Dil and grandson are expected this month and we are looking forward to getting the cherub here. His name is Raghuram.

Thanks Kalav for sharing this information. I have a friend who has some breathing problems everytime he consumes any of these peanuts. Maybe it would be of help and use to him.
I emailed this one and also attached a note - As you have a different issue, please consult some doctors before giving it a try.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
theSids.

Let us hope it has a positive effect on him.I have roasted peanuts and promptly take jaggery along with it but steamed groundnuts is something I still am afraid of.I suffer too badly and end up throwing up and suffering a lot from migraine. THough I have not tried it with steamed groundnuts, I have heard that it works there too. My sister said so and let us hear what your friend says.

I guess it works but I still feel that anything in moderation should be fine.Even for people without any sort of allergy , if they are going to stuff themselves with peanuts unlimitedly, it may cause some harm. Each person may of course have varying tolerance levels.

update:
The friend didnt consult any doctor as he feels that there is not much information on this and his doctor seems to be ignorant. So he tried out at his own yesterday. He did have some problem but said that it was not that complex as the other times.

Hi kalav
I don't know any person who is allergic to peanut or mungfalli, or chiniabadam as we call it here, it is poorman's almond, full of protein, i am fond of 'mungfalli-laddu', made from fried mungfalli seeds and bound together with gud or jaggery, i also ear roasted seeds with little salt, when i am travelling in train, i consume too much of this, it is kind of time pass..
Thank you so much for the 'anti-dote' information.
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.
God bless you. Welcome always.

It is definitely a poor mans badam, because i t is a rich source of protein. And it is such atempting thing . We always feel like having a bit more even after finishing whta we have in our plate. It is a never ending temptation.I am careful of course because I am allergic and take small quantities with jaggery. Thanks for the wishes and the participation.

Hi Kala! That is a useful information.I always like jaggery.I remember keeping a spoon in my right hand and take a lip with every sip of black tea when I was a small boy in Sri Lanka.
And it is always divine for me to have the hot raggi (Kali)with a small well made in the middle and adding the ghee and jaggery.

Hiya!^_^
I didnt know what a jaggery was until I read your discussion.^_^ Im not allergic to peanuts and Im glad Im not cause I love those things.LOL I love all kinds too, but my favorite is the boiled one. The kind that you still have to take it out of the shell before you eat it. Kinda like roasted peanuts.
I have read and actually experienced that we should take the teeniest amount of what we are allergic of once in a while. It is said to make our bodies meet and "befriend" the things that we are allergic to and hopefully, we would build up the proper immunity to counter it in the future.
As long as you still keep safe while eating the things you love, then go for it!

True. I also read once, thta taking it in small quantity till the system gets used to something helps. This was written especially with grapes. SOme,people develop a throat problem if they take grapes. I t was said that if the grapes are kept in the mouth , chewed slowly, and then swallowed gently , this may be good for the person.

Wow how interesting is that? I confess that I didn’t know what jaggery is and I had to look it up (LOL)! I have a brother in law who is allergic to all kinds of nuts and another who suffers from frequent migraines so this is information I will pass on to them! It may give them some relief, you never know; I am fortunate because I don’t suffer from allergies like that and the last time I had a migraine was many years ago (knock on wood)...

I am lucky I don't have that. Even if I consume large amount of peanuts in a single day, I don't experience any kind of headache like migraine. The only bad effect that is visible to me is, it makes my face so oily!
