I have recently joined Helium and cannot find the answer to my question - hoping one of you guys might be able to help. What I want to know is - if I have had one of my articles published on another writing site, can I still submit the same article to Helium? (It is my own article, written by me.)

Hi Abbey, technically you can. However, there are a few problems with doing that. The first is that you must maintain the same user name. You cannot publish the content as Abbey in one website, and republish the content in Helium as Alice. They will definitely ban you for plagiarism. The second problem is in finding the same title in Helium. Helium is very strict when it comes to the matter of article title. You need to submit the title for approval, and the title must follow a certain format.

Using the same pen name seems to be the consensus of opinion! So because of the great comments I have had here, on this occasion I am not going to re-publish on Helium as I have a different pen name for the other site. Why are Helium so strict about the article title?

I can understand that they want the writing style to reflect the professionalism of the writers, because they want to keep a good name. Thanks for all your help scheng, I really appreciate it.

Hi Abbey, Helium is strict on a lot of other things as well, not just the title creation. I think they want the writing style to reflect the professionalism of the writers, that is why they specify magazine writing style. Some writers cannot get used to the stringent requirement, especially when they want the freedom to write whatever they want, and to create a catchy title.

Hey abbey19, long time, no talk. If you submitted your article to a site that holds the rights then you have to honor their web address. You can change the article around or add some more information to it and that would make it unique to Helium. There are other sites such as Associated Content which is now Yahoo! Contributor Network that allows you to publish it on others sites and link it on Facebook.

Hi gitfiddleplayer, nice to see you! On reading all the great responses to this discussion, it seems it would be ok as long as I use the same username - which I don't. So to avoid complications, I am going to pass on re-publishing my article at Helium; I don't need the hassle! Thanks for the thumbs up on Associated Content - I will give it a go. Are you a member there?

Yes, I've been writing for them for a while. I'm kind of sporadic since I ghost write for another site and write music reviews for a rock 'n' roll site. Associated Content is now called Yahoo! Contributor Network. You can find my link in my profile.

Ewwww, I don't remember, as I pretty much quite using Helium a while back. When I joined they had one set of requirements and then as I just about reached payments they changed the payout requirements. I like Triond and A/C (now Yahoo) much better as they pay every month whether we add content or not, whereas I have never been paid by Helium. Even Squidoo pays me better.

Hi drannhh! Sorry to hear you didn't get your payout from Helium because of the changes; that sucks. I am also in Triond and I tried to join AC (now Yahoo), but couldn't, as I live in Australia. I joined Squidoo but haven't done anything there yet - but it looks like a good site for writing.

As far as I am aware, as long as it's your own work, it doesn't matter...I have a couple of my articles on both helium & bukisa & none of the sites have said anyhthing.

Hmm - conflicting responses here moonchild! Guess I will have to wait and see because I submitted an article to Buksia today which I have already had published on another site. I will let you know. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Bukisa will definitely let you publish an article from somewhere else. It is in their FAQ's

Hello, Abbey. I've submitted articles to Helium that have been on other websites with no problem. One time, they did query it, but as it was under my own name on the other website, they allowed it to stand. I think the problem arises if people use different pen names on different sites. I always use my real name, as it's more professional. Helium would certainly not terminate the account for one instance which they regarded as plagiarism, especially the first time. It takes a lot to get your account deleted at Helium, and I often think when people claim this has happened that they only pass on half of the story, but perhaps that's just me being cynical.

Hi Sandra! On this instance, I have different pen names so I think I might just pass this time and not re-publish my article at Helium. I don't need the hassle to tell you the truth! I also don't think that Helium would terminate someone's account for one "bad" incident; it would be very unfair on their part.

I write for both Bukisa and Helium and I cross-publish. I've used many of the articles I've published for Bukisa and submitted them to Helium. Except for two occasions where I was accused of plagiarism, all my articles were published at Helium with no problem at all. I discovered that two Bukisa articles of mine which I tried to submit to Helium were plagiarized by other webmasters. I have since proven to Helium that those articles were written by me and I own the copyright to those two articles and they've apologized and reinstated my articles.

Hi Umi! Do you use the same pen name on your writing sites? It seems to make a difference. I have used a different pen name on Buksia, so I might run into problems if I submit to Helium. On this occasion, I think I will leave it. Thanks for your comment.

I actually got banned from Helium for doing that, they accused me of plagurising my own work! I tried to prove to them that it was my work, and it came from my blog, but they won't listen to me. After the 2nd article. I felt so discouraged. My suggestion is that you only submit unique - and completely unique content to Helium. They're very, very strict, and I tried for 2 months to get my account back without any such luck. Good luck in your article-writing

Sorry to hear that you have had so much trouble with Helium Masihi. They are very strict, and a lot of people don't like them because of that. Did you ever get your account back?

you can do it but you might run into problems like not proving it is your own work. It is much easier to put it on Helium first and then post it elsewhere. Unless of course you submit it under exclusive rights then they own it.

I understand what you are saying, but I write for Qondio as well, who require that they are the first to publish your article; after they have screened it and published it, you can publish it on another site, no problem.
