When you are watching a movie, or even a tv show, do you pay attention to the music also, or does it just kind of blend into the movie? I am a big music person, so most of the time I pay attention to the music. I will be watching something and right at a turning point in the movie they will play an awesome song. OR sometimes I will be watching something and they will play a song, and I am thinking "Why did they play that song? It doesn't belong there." Does anyone else pay attention to music when they watch movies or am I just weird??

Haha, nice discussion. Nope you're not weird and not the only one. I also listen to the music more than watching the movie. Music plays a large part in movies as they bring out the storyline more. Say romantic movies, when there's a section which displays love, the movie editor or whoever that's called, will insert the appropriate music into it, which makes it stand out more.

Yes! That's the fun part of the job. You know, choosing music for movies are quite hard and you have to get permission this and that, but who cares, when the music is nice-sounding and it makes the job better LOL.

you sound like me!! I watched this movie called To Save A Life the other day, and it was like a turning point in the movie, and they played "I dare you to move" by Switchfoot and I totally got into the song!!
Ilove Grey's Anatomy, too and I also love The Fray.

Ironically I am a huge music lover, (rather listen to my music than any TV show or movie,) but when it comes to watching movies, the music does blend in unless it is from a group I know, then I pick up on the song right away..:)

I am the opposite, especially with tv. I hardly ever watch tv, because I usually have to wait until I get the kiddos to bed before I can watch anything, so I watch a movie like once or twice a week after I get them to bed(unless I pass out right behind them, which happens alot too). But if a really good song starts playing, I zone out of the moie or show, and get into the song!! I love music. I am always walking around singing, and there is always music playing in my head!

I am always facinated by movie music as much as plot. I like to listen to the music that is played for different scenes. it is interesting to try to figure why certain music was used for certain scenes. What goes through someone's head as they determine the music for a movie?

yes I do that to... I even take down the lyrics of some music that I really like in a particular movie.. then I search it on the net. Although my attention is more to the movie itself, when the background song is just awesome I remember it.

Most of the time the music tends to blend into the background for me. The exception to the rule is generally when I watch a Martin Scorsese movie because he always fills his movies with an often brilliant and noticeable soundtrack. Movies such as Goodfellas and Casino are prime examples where he creates a great nostalgic feel through a very noticeable soundtrack.
Plus when ever I hear Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Over the rainbow" used in a movie or on a show I just have to stop to listen as it is so perfect.

You are not weird. I'm always paying attention to music because I love it so much. It can actually make me happy, make me cry or make me scared. It sometimes can make or break a movie I think. I think music plays a big part when it comes to a show or movie. In fact I was just watching a movie the other day and I mentioned how this movie has a great music track to it. I wanted to sing all the songs in the movie. If I could remember the name of the movie I would tell you but I can't remember at this time. I only remember it was on the Lifetime channel.

I always pay attention to the music in movies. I'm very interested in cinema as an art form so I pay attention to everything in movie (camera work, acting, music, SFX, dialogue etc..) and music is a very important part of any movie so I pay close attention to it as well.

There are times when the soundtracks attract me more than the movies. It doesn't mean that I dont like the movies, what I mean is that it is the music that touches me first. But most of the times, as for me, I find that its music is really important things to come into deeper spot of the heart.

The music does catch my attention when I watch something. It actually enhances my experience more. I hardly get peeved with a piece of music in a movie (or tv show). Tv shows tend to be on the mark about music because tv writing and production has to me slick and smooth. Movies have to be more picky in picking out songs for scenes. I also love movie orchestrations.

Movie sountracks contributes as well to the overall impact of the movie. The scene and the music complement each other. For me, music is like the 'bookmark' of a particular scene in the movie. Whenever you hear the song, you say ---aaahh! that song was play on this so and so scene in this movie.
