I've used linux since mid 2008 and I wanted to know how many other mylotters do. If you do, why did you choose linux over windows or macs?
Personally, i chose it for its ability to be configured EXACTLY how you want it, and almost everything is free and/or can be changed by anyone.

My father and I started to use Linux when it was first designed and passed out freely in beta stages . It was originally quite difficult to navigate until more recently. You had ot know how to go through all of the programming in it.
What I have always enjoyed about Linux is the tuning it has to it. I can't imagine the looks on Windows and Macs faces if Linux faces if they ever create a compatible friendly mode for people that is dominant over the other systems. Linux is good already now and you can limit users to an exact endpoint.
At the law library I help to set up the computers for we were getting a lot of people using the computers for other items than the actual law catalog. So, I installed Linux on it with an administrator and a basic user account. With the basic user account you log in and the wireless automatically comes up and the only screen you can see and /or go to is the law catalog. You can't even close the window it is so tuned.

I first used ubuntu linux, because i think it is the most "newbie friendly" (i hope i didn't offend anybody), but now I'm so terminal-dependant i use slackware. my wife has seen me working on my laptop and she asked "what are you doing?". Sometimes it's hard to explain.

haha true :) It's especially difficult for me to understand what I'm doing when half the applications I use are console-based. pine, elinks, etc

I use linux (Ubuntu) as well as Microsoft Vista. I use linux because its more reliable, safe (virtually free from virsus), gives me almost all the GUI features like 3D browser etc. that too free and its open source. Plus I do not need to have any other software to install, because it comes with basic software like archives, Star office etc. Mainly I use it because it free and safe to use over internet.

How long have you been using ubuntu? I first used it when it was ubuntu 8.4 and kept it at that until i moved on to slackware.

- A Linux Distribution has thousands of dollars worth of software for no cost (or a couple of dollars if purchased on CD)
- Comes with a complete development environment, ncluding C, C++, Fortran compilers, toolkits such as Qt and scripting languages such as Perl,Awk and sed. A C compiler for Windows alone would set you back hundreds of dollars.
