Now I know how it happened

A few years ago my dog, Secret, went to a vet. I remember sitting in the waiting room and chatting to another dog owner. She explained that her dog was having an operation and then a shop keeper phoned her to say that he had her dog in his shop. The dog has a tag on his or her collar. The lady said that the dog had escaped from the vet. We both said that the dog did well to cross the busy road and not get run over. I stopped going to that vet and go on a different vet now. I was walking past the that old vets and I saw a door open and two dogs came out to go to the toilet. They did that and then went back into the door. I now know that is what happened in the case of the dog that had escaped on the day of his or her operation and ended up at a shop in the High Street. What do you think? Should a dog be walked with a collar on and be connected to a lead?

Yeah I think they should be. It's dangerous to not. =P

The dog escaped to relieve itself of its body needs. The owner should understand why.By the way, the owner should have kept an eye on the dog to be sure it cannot escape. It is the owner's responsibility to look after a pet dog..not the vet.

To allow a dog to wander out a door on his own, to escape or to just relieve themselves, while so close to a road is simply irresponsible behavior on the human's part. Especially a care giver such as a vet (office). At the vet I take my dog to, it states clearly within a notice on the front door, for all to see prior to entering. The notice reads that all dogs must be on a leash. Basically if the dogs feet hit the floor they must be under control. I am appalled at the lack of sensibility coming from such as a veterinary office!

Here it is the law that they have to be walked with a lead..or leash...You can get highly fined if you don't as if your dog gets loose you can be liable for any thing that happens....I don't blame you for finding a new vet! I would too!

Yes, they definitely should be. Too many dogs get loose and are hit by cars, end up in shelters, etc.

Good evening dear Mylloter friend Maximax8 , well i am actually a dog owner myself , and after reading your story ( discussion ) here i've cammed to the ideea that Dogs usually perceive the Vet as a person whom only make the live the pain , i mean my little cutie dog , every time when i go near the Vet house ( i live in a small town , village more precise , and when i walk her i go near the Vets house ) she goes off pretty fast . Now between me and my little dog we have created a very dear relationship of trust , i trust this dog with all my heart and whenver she was little , when i started to walk her out , was with a collar and a leesh , but she is a verry energetic been , so the first time i walked her with those collar and leesh , she was more experiencing suffering , because she used to want to run and i could not follow , so she used to get strangled , and i saw the fear in her eyes ,thats when i decided to take the lead ( leesh ) of her and let her free , i was never doubted that she will run away from me and inside my heart i somehow knew that she will listen to any command i give her , ever since two years had past from then and i alway walk her freely , she always waits for my command to cross the street or to aproach another dog , and if i forbid her to enter some yard or chase a cat she will always listen , i love her with will all my heart and i had always trusted her , and somewher deep inside i cann feel that she is trusting me too and that she loves me as much as i care about her , the relationship i have with this dog is a father child one i cann say , and whenever i'm down she is there for me trying to get me up . Trust your dog , they are verry smart and they cann feel any emotions you are letting out. Florin , Over and Out
