Where can i get scrap metal? and is scrapping metal a good way of making money?

I have a friend who has gotten into scrapping and he says it take allot of work because your better off bringing in a whole truck load each time to get the most money. What he does to find things to scrap is he checks craigslist and the newspaper adds for free things that he can go pick up and get each day and then he can choose all what he can scrap but before doing that he likes to see if any of his friends could use it. It just takes time and effort to find things to scrap because there are plenty of people who doesn't want to have to take care of there broken items so if they can find someone else to haul it off they will.
