who here knows how to type without looking at their keyboard? sadly, i do not know how to type without looking as i dont use the proper way you are supposed to type. i also dont type without looking at the keyboard because i always make mistakes and i hate having to go back and fixing them up. So? Does it take skill to type without looking at the keyboard, or is it just from practising so often when you are typing? so, tell me, are YOU skillful enough to type without looking? or are you an amateur like me?
please tell

Yep, it's actually gotten really easy for me to type without looking at the keyboard, and I don't place my fingers in the exact spots on the keyboard, either, but I still type with about 8 of my fingers... (plus my thumb for the spacebar). I got a bit of training in typing back in school, but that didn't do it... I just kept on typing, and trying harder and harder to not look at the keyboard, so now it's just natural for me not to be looking.
And yeah, it is bad when you make a mistake when you're not looking at the keyboard, but in looking at the screen, at least you can see the mistake you made, right away, rather then it getting lost in the messages you're writing.

I took typing in High School and was typing 75-80 WPM. Practice makes perfect. You have to keep up your typing in order to keep up your speed or increase it. I never look at the keys. Once you learn the movement of your fingers and keep your fingers on the correct starting hand keys, you won't forget. I typed much faster when I was working every day, but with computing lots, the speed has built back up pretty fast.
There are programs on the Internet where you can practice typing and build up speed. It gives you the correct way to place your fingers on the keyboard and what keys to hit with each finger. You can also buy programs to learn at home on your computer.
I've learned from my grandchildren that they don't really push typing in school anymore even though they start children out on computers in elementary school. To me, that is a hindrance to them ever learning how to type correctly. My daughter has 4 children and only one of them, her youngest, has learned to type correctly and he's only a 9th grader.

One thing I didn't mention is that I was one of the fastest typists in our class, but, when it came time for our last speed drill which was our last semester test in my senior year, I spent ALL day trying to pass the speed drill - to no avail! I was SO nervous. I was the Salutatorian of our class, and couldn't pass the speed drill. That gave me an A- in the class when I normally had made A's. :) IT got to be a joke, even with the teacher, many years later. She's say to me, 'here comes my smartest student but she couldn't pass her last speed drill.' She was so sweet.

I took up typing lessons during my college days. So i was formally taught of the technique and i can type without looking at the keyboard. It takes practice though and when u didnt type for a long time, u need to practice again and remember the positioning of the keys in keyboard.
There are lessons online about this , and it takes a lot of patience though to learn the craft, but much more convenient now cause you and learn it in the comfort of your home.
Try to browse for typing lessons and refer to to youtube for tutorials.
Good luck(^_^)

Yes i know how to type without looking, first you must know the home case. for your left hand start with 'a s d f' and for the right 'j k l ;' and for your both thumbs for space. that is the basic. hope you practice typing with homekeys.

It is also nice if you can do both. On the other hand, if you are not really obliged to do it, I guess that's okay. :)

I took some courses to be able to type without looking. You can get them online, they really help. Well of corse that if you use your computer on a daily basis, you're gonna end up doing that anyway. You know what really helps? IM's like msn or skype.

I have been typing since my high school days. i started on a manual typewriter. Now my typing has found the computer. It is so much quieter and easier to fix mistakes. It has been a long time since i have had to look at the keyboard when I typed. i could almost do it in my sleep.

This has been one of the things I wanted to be able to do before - typing without looking at the keyboard. I used to work as a Correspondence Associate and one of the requirements is to be able to type really fast with at least 98% accuracy. Sadly, I was not able to learn how to type really fast without the need to look at the keyboard. My typing skills is fine but I'd still love to be able to type like a pro. I tried taking some online lessons but got no time and patience for it so I was not able to continue it.

I do type without looking at the keyboard and I'm quite proud of this skill because I've been practicing it for six months. You know I wanted to work in a call center so I tried hard to type without looking at the keyboard and it my efforts paid.

I do type without looking at the keyboard, it makes easier for me and makes may work faster. I believe our typing class during our high school days really do help me to have a good skill in typing. Memorizing the the keyboards will make it easier for an individual to get job done quickly. There are typing lessons online which i think can help you develop your typing skills.

i sometimes type the keyboard without looking at it , but at the outcome of what i am typing. Sadly , i just couldn't do it faster and without errors! LOL
constant usage of something will really acquaint you with it. like my cellphone, i could type a message on it without looking at the keyboard or even in the dark . that is because i constantly use my cellphone , that i have memorized the keypad by heart. but with the laptop's keyboard, i have yet to practice a lot.

I would like to say another thing.
To properly type without looking at the keyboard, you really need to put your fingers in the right keys.
The smallest left finger will be for be for Q,A,Z
The ring left finger will be for W,S,X
The middle finger is for E,D,C,
The point finger is for, R,F,V, T,G,B,
In the right hand, the smallest finger (dunno what its called) is for P
The ring finger is for O,L,
The middle, I,K
The point finger is U,J,M, Y,H,N,

Typing without looking at the keyboard is actually quite easy. Actually, while typing this, I'm not looking at the kayboard but with eyes directly at the monitor of my laptop.
Here's what you should do.
Memorize the keys for each finger.
That's all you need to do. Then practice typing.
I did that and now I can say that I'm the fastest typist in our family and even among my classmates.

I can type without looking at my keyboard. It's.. just practice and usage. I use the computer somewhat frequently, and I sometimes write articles for a writing website so I type quite often. It comes naturally when I'm typing, because I know where the position of the letters are.
I don't think that it takes skill to type without looking at the keyboard. Practice and you will eventually get used to the keyboard. All the best! :)

When I was in college I took a typing class. This is probably the best way to be sure you learn the proper typing techniques, but in general practice is the the only way you will be able to achieve typing without looking at the keys. Even in the typing class, the most important element of it was practice and repetition of the skills we were taught. Do you ever use an instant messenger to talk to friends? When I was younger, I talked to lots of people on instant messengers everyday and this helped me learn how to type without looking and to type faster. I think more than anything, it's going to be a matter of how much time you put into it. Think of it as learning how to play a musical instrument; it takes practice!
You do know about keeping your hands on "home row", right? That is the foundation of correct typing. Keeping the four fingers of each hand on A, S, D, F and J, K, L, ;. Your fingers will reach for all the other keys from that position. Your thumbs will remain near the space bar. If you are not doing this, you will never really be "typing", only doing "hunt and peck."

I was required to learn to type properly when I was younger, my middle school had a class devoted to it. It's nothing extremely hard to do, it's all about repetition. If you get a program designed to teach you, and practice a lot, you will gradually get better and better until it eventually just becomes second nature to type correctly.
