Direct referrals, how do you get it?

I had involved in online money making half year ago, got some return as well, but up to now i do not have a single direct referral in my downline for any sites. Then the questions come to my mind. 1. I got see some of them obtain the direct referrals through paid to signup at the site like clicksia and incentria, will it be beneficial to do that? Will the direct referral obtained in this way be active most of the time? 2. What is the other method (other than paid to signup) you use to obtain direct referral for the sites you joined? 3. Is there any site which specialize in obtaining direct referrals for me and you? If got some sites, how do the site obtain direct referrals for us? I mean the concept the site used. 4.
