Are we misunderstanding the major income of Helium?

Until last week, I thought Helium makes their money mainly from the advertisement, like most of the other pay to write sites do. After the changes Helium made to their upfront payment system, I start to doubt.
In the past, I have also doubted why Helium are paying more than other paid to write sites. After all, Helium's article looks really dull - we cannot even bold the words in Helium! How can Helium earn even more than other sites like Triond or Squidoo, where you can even add photos and videos into an article? Just because Helium have greater control on the title, so they are performing better in search engines? Just because Helium is willing to share a greater profit with us?
Then, after the changes and Helium starts to insist on accepting only articles written in third person, while Helium administrator explains "publisher like articles written in third person more", it rings the bell - maybe Helium is mainly earning from selling our articles?
If that's the case, that's explain why Helium is not willing to shows the page view of our article - as the earning is not counted in this way! What's more, the reason behind the recent change is not only for cutting force, but really trying to sell more articles and make more money. (and I hope they are sharing this to the writers) This may also explains why Helium is putting more focus on who hold the copyright compared to other paid to write sites?

Hello, SN. I think Helium is trying to cut what it pays to its writers with these changes - I don't think it has a bearing on where their revenue comes from. I for one would like to know how many page views my articles are getting. I'm happy with the earnings, but I'd like to see the stats as well.
I think Helium is forgetting the people who have earned it such a good reputation - the writers. A lot of us are very unhappy at the moment.

Well, as I am not saying Helium is not cutting cost - it actually does. I am just saying they are trying to cut cost and find more sales at the same time.

You may be right that Helium must be selling the article to other Companies. But the Positive part in this thing is that Many people are satisfied with their earnings from the site.
The site pays well and it is their business what they should do with the articles. They pay us sufficiently so we should not crib about it.

I have failed to understand Heliums system from the very beginning and decided to give up on it. I want the system clear to me before investing more time on it and somehow I just can't understand heliumand its rating system. Easier to understand Triond, Squidoo, Hubpages and Associated Content as the system is clearly defined from the very beginning.

I do not really understand these recent changes! I have been very happy with my past payments from Helium and have seen my earnings rise nicely each month - will this change stop that?
How will the changes to the upfront payments work? I know we are to be paid twice a month - does this mean that we will get two lots of adjustments a month?
I really am in the dark as to what is happening!
