in the UK it's traditional to leave out a glass of sherry and a Mince Pie for father Christmas. with a carrot for the reindeer. in Discworld, they leave the Hogfather sherry and a Pork Pie. I gather that in America they like to leave milk and biscuits. it made me wonder what people in other countries traditionally leave out for Father Christmas. so where are you from, and what do you leave out for the Fat Man?

We Hungarian don't leave anything for him, because in our tradition the Angel brings the gifts and not Santa Claus or Father Christmas. It is true that on 6th December Saint Nicolas comes and brings us candies, but I don't know if it is a custom to leave something for him to collect it.

I live in Ecuador, and... i don't know any person that leaves any food or present out of your house... interesting what you make in Britain and in the U.S.

I live in the USA.. and yes we leave cookies (biscuits mean something different to us, they're more like a dinner roll) and milk, and sometimes carrots or celery for the reindeer. A few years ago we found something called "Reindeer food" which is actually some oats and sugar crystals (it could also be made with glitter but that is messy and could be hazardous to wildlife). The sugar crystals are to make it pretty and make it so the reindeer can see it from the sky.. and the oats are what the reindeer would eat while Santa is leaving your presents. In actuality the birds will most likely eat the oats.. but still that's a good thing!

i don't know about foodwise, but in finland all the children go out on christmas eve and take part in a ceremony in which they light loads of candles along the roads leading up to their houses in order to show santa where to go. i think foodwise they may leave out Glogi (traditional Finnish mulled wined) and some kind of traidtional pastry or ginger biscuits. amy *

It is finally good too see a fellow United kingdom friend as i am from the United Kingdom we usually just leave out a mince pie and a glass of milk as my mum and dad dont want my brother drinking the sherry as he did one year lol not that it will really hurt him.Plus normally they leave out a piece of cotton wool which they say must of come off santas beard as he was in a rush.

Galena- It depends as each year seems different. Last year the Hogfather as my kids are now calling him (I'm so proud) was given Saki and apparently enjoyed the entire bottle. This year I'm thinking of baking kolaches again for him. I'm not sure what drink we'll leave out as I've not done that shopping yet and won't until the next pay day. Namaste-Anora
