Are you a Sikh?

When visiting a Gurdwara, what should I wear? Are jeans okay? So far I know that I should wear a head cover which is usually available in the temple, right? And I got to take my shoes off.
What should I be expecting when I come into the temple?
What things should I avoid? Disrespectful actions that may be offensive?
Would it be rude if I took pictures inside? Or take videos?
Just tell me what are the do's and don'ts when visiting a Gurdwara?
Tomorrow, I will be exploring Sikhism by attending a prayer service(I think). This is for my world religions class. Thank you.

Actually, I know a lot of religions now because I took a World Religions Class and this is just a project I got to do. I have to make a powerpoint presentation about a religious site visit except Christianity. I'm going to their temple because it is the one closest to my house about 15 minutes drive from my house. Another thing is we did not cover this religion in class so I don't know much about it.

Thank you. Is wearing socks not common in India, I mean wearing socks inside a Gurdwara? Is being barefoot better? What do you think? What do you see more often or more dominant when you go to the gurdwaras?

It is a good thing that they allow members of other community to come inside the Gurudwara. It is a place as sacred to them as Mecca is to a Muslim and Fire Temple to a Parsi, but Sikhs do not preclude others from joining them in their worship. You must maintain proper decorum. Even if you do not know the norms then do as they do. Covering the head is the least, there are other rituals too that you might have to observe. While taking photographs do not aim the camera at anyone in particular, especially towards the ladies. I think since you posted this discussions five days ago, by now you might have already visited and experienced everything yourself. Please do tell us about your experience.

yup I already went. It was a knowledgeable experience and the fact that we did not study anything about Sikhism in class at all makes it more interesting. Though I did not attend a prayer service. The people who were there are really nice and welcoming even to strangers like me. I wore a beanie they said it was okay so I went in and took a look of what it is like inside the gurdwara then I went out then the people invited me to langar or free food, we all sat on the floor while eating as it symbolizes equality for everyone. Then I said goodbye.

This is the last project I have for the class. The class is over. I learned a lot. My visit to the gurdwara was fun. They have free food. It's vegetarian food.
