I have been facing lot of problems due to the viruses in the computer. I have tried couple of antivirus but they all expire in 1 month's time. I don't want to pay the hefty sum to buy antivirus. How to find the best antivirus all free of cost for atleast a year???

The three best free AV solutions are AVG, Avast! and Avira. They are just as good as the ones you pay for but they sometimes have fewer extra features. I am currently using Avast! and am very happy with it.

How does this Avast stack up to Norton 360? I got a bad trojan I guess it was and had to get Norton 360 to take it off. Norton does everything. My new computer that I put it on runs great and I get a pop up immediately whenever there is a threat. I wonder if this Avast would do as well.

I haven't had any personal experience of Norton for a while. I can only say that Avast updates regularly, sometimes twice a day, and that it blocks web pages in which it detects malware, seems to work well checking email and generally does what I need. I use it in conjunction with Zonealarm Free and Spybot S&D.

@ Celtic, I just cannot stand Norton. It takes way too much resources and is so irritating sometimes. It pops up even when there are no threats. It will tell me to check my firewalls and stuff, things which are not very significant at all. It is a powerful antivirus but just not worth it. Nice to hear that it has helped somebody. Oh! and almost every software gives a pop up when they detect a threat. @ Owl, Avast is very good and fast. But doesn't Avast and Zonealarm have compatibility issues?? I heard they cause problems when used simultaneously.

In addition to those already mentioned, there is Microsoft Security Essentials -- free and highly rated. You say you have tried a couple of AVs but they all are expiring -- you are not using more than one AV at a time, are you? It is generally not recommended, since conflicts may occur.

I sure attest to that LaDeBoneme. I had been using two and didn't realize they were the same. Had all kinds of problems. COuldn't get my browser to work, and the computer lugged down. It was pathetic. I thought I had another trojan and it was just the two were in conflict. Ghee, it is nice when you know what you are doing.

If you already have virus problems, I wouldn't recommend you to install any antivirus software as yet (specially if it is not purchased). If you really wanna go for free antivirus then first format your pc. As for free antivirus, AVG is good. But free trial packs do not last a year. You have to use a patch or reinstall the software when the trial period is over.

i think it's no preblem if you have to download antivirus each month.. just need a lil time and you don't need to purchase the antivirus.. i've been doing that till now..

if u need a free antivirus then either use the already free versions or support piracy and use some torrent downloads..........u u can easily get avast , avg for free by using torrents.........sorry but this is the only way of getting free ones....i m just telling u the way......i m not encouraging piracy....

I think you have no alternative but to go for a paid antivirus device to save your computer from frequent attacks of viruses.
