I just paid for Hubby's present. It's just what he asked for and with the help of some other family members we got it done. We got his family plot repaired and restored. This was six graves dating from 1884. It's in a cemetary in Texas. Hubby has never been there to see it but this was very important to him so I am glad we got it done. Would you do something like this?

It sounds like a very thoughtful idea which I’m sure will be much appreciated! Gifts like are very specific to what the person wants and are very special. My daughter and I were hoping to have enough money to have my husband’s motorcycle (his pride and joy) seat reupholstered as it currently has a small tear on it.

Though this is not the kind of request that I've ever gotten as far as a gift goes, I would do it if it was something that meant a lot to a person that I care about. The craziest request that I've ever had for a gift was when we did a first birthday gift exchange for the kids and the person whose name that I got said that their family was very blessed and asked that we donate money to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I did this as well for her daughter's birthday gift.

I'm not sure that it's something I'd do as a gift, but it sounds like your husband appreciates it, which makes it a good gift to me! What's important is that the gift recipient is happy, not how strange the gift might seem to others. I am glad you were able to get it done!

I surely would, because I love to get people exactly what they want. It is a lot of work, but I know that it was an important gesture.

that sounds like a wonderful and thoughtful present.
for my thirtieth birthday, a few months back, so we've not arranged the actual event yet, my husband bought a beautiful card with a lovely painting of wolves on it. inside it said that he will pay for me to go to a wolf sanctuary, where they have wolf experience days, where there are two wolves that were hand reared and as such are socialised with humans, so you even get to meet them. touch them even. I was in tears at how magical and thoughtful this idea was, as it's something I'd never have even thought of to ask for, and he researched it, and in the new year we'll arrange it. I know it will be a very special experience.

I think that's a beautiful present and would not hesitate to do something like that for a loved one! Does he at least have a picture of it? Although I don't want conventional burial myself, I take care of my grandparents' graves and take flowers about 4 times a year. It shows people that they were loved and still are.
I can't think of an unusual gift I've given on the scale of yours but you and your family were very thoughtful and made your husband feel loved.

hi pat,
just like in the title, a really unusual present. but like all the others, i would definitely do it for my husband because i know he will appreciate me doing it for him. and it is all that matters - that he is happy with what i give.
thank you so much for this discussion. God bless and have a nice day.

I would definitely do it for my husband if it was what he asked for and if I really wanted to give him a gift. I told my partner few years ago that I would love to get a flower as a gift few years ago and instead of getting the fresh one, he bought a little canvas and painted my favourite flower with some romantic wording on it. I was really happy as he spent few days to get it done. I still have the painting today and always hanging in our room.

Pat-
That's a wonderful gift! Yes, I think I would have done something like that if we had something in our family like that. It's important to keep family heirlooms and places alive so that we can pass them down to future generations. It's something that his grand-kids can visit with their children one day and tell them the story of how you restored it for him.
I remember when I was young my dad had a wonderful cowboy that over the years had lost its shape and become tarnished from a lack of use. My mother had it reshaped and cleaned for my dad as a Christmas gift and he loved it.
