How do you cope with pain?

I have always be an easy going young male who always will lend a ear for someone to ran to, but truly ive always wondered that people come in all shapes and sizes, personalities ranging from sane and calm to the somewhere even we cant find on a map. Personally i am an emotional person that shares his feelings, but how do other cope with their pain? i know talking and communication is key but what about those who feel that speaking isnt truly the way to go. have you ever had this or seen this or even felt like this?
