Most awaited series between top two teams in the world is starting on 16th of December.Centurion pitch is likely to be a green top with good bounce and carry to benefit SA bowlers .Whom according to you should play on no 6 postion amongst Raina , Pujara and Vijay? Did Yuvraj Singh with his experience would have been better choice?

Obviously, Raina. Still you have doubts in your mind?
They will give Raina the first chance and he deserves it. Vijay is not consistent, Pujara has the potential but he does not have experience of this level, Yuvraj Singh has his own problems (Only god knows what kind of problems).
With these things in mind, selectors would certainly give "Raina" a chance to play. If he can deal with the short pitch bowling, he will certainly retain his place in the team.

Doubts just because Raina did very well in Srilanka but recently he has been getting out cheaply. It happens that a player does well at the start of his career when oppositions doesn't know much about him , then when he plays well teams come up with a strategy against that player and he needs to adjust his game accordingly.Same thing happened with Yuvraj ,very early in his test career he made magnificent 100 against Pakistan but in Australia he failed completely as he was not able to lift up his game .As a test player one has to learn how to out think and tackle the strategy of opposition. This is the only reason for doubt .Thanks a lot for your response.

You're welcome, Gaurav.
All these players are not that good, you can not expect them to play like "Ganguly", "Dravid" or "Laxman". These players are like water bubbles. They will perform for sometime and then disappear. I think Raina will be the choice because he is better than the others (Yuvraj, Pujara and Vijay) in last one year.

I think Raina or Yuvaraj will play .
Yuvaraj in the recent ODI series regained his form and can be included in the team.
Also we all know Raina's Capability.
He can also bat well and Bowl few overs.
ANd I am sure that Vijay & Pujara will sit out, there is no place for them in this match.

Playing good left handed batsman in the team is beneficial as bowlers find it difficult to adjust their lines and lengths if right and left handed batsman are on the crease.Playing ODI world cup final and winning T20 world cup final can inspire Indians that they can do well in South Africa, yes that was limited overs cricket, but still they can get inspiration .They can win if they can pressurize SA ,who are not so famous when it comes to handling pressure. Thanks a lot for your response.

Raina would be first choice for sure, i too think Pujara is best option if Dhoni wants to replace Raina .Thanks alot for your response.

i think pujara looks the most solid batsmen and should be given a chance but raina looks the preferable choice. he is a little suspect against the short pitched stuff but he has been working hard on his batting with gary kirsten and should be able to deal with the short pitched bowling. also raina provides an additonal bowling option to dhoni so i think he is the right choice for to make the team.

Yes you are right , also he is a brilliant fielder. He needs to settle down when he come to bat ,he tends to try many things. But then Raina and Kirsten knows better than anyone .He is an attacking batsman and if India needs to win in South Africa they have to play attacking cricket.Raina can be of good use if he applies himself well. Thanks a lot for your response.

Suresh Raina will get the chance because their is a slot in the middle order unless team India plays another bowler, because opening slot is already occupied by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, unless one of the opener is opted out for injury, Vijay has to sit. Pujara can make a chance if team management thinks so but in the fast and bouncy crease in South Africa, Raina would make chance as he is more experienced than Pujara. Yuvraj can too make if selectors are impressed. Actually I myself want Yuvraj because he can handle the fast bowlers better than Raina.

Well Raina is under pressure for sure,if he doesnt performs well Dhoni might be tempted to play Pujara or Yuvraj instead of him.Like all of us Raina knows this too,so he must be working hard .Hope he does well. Thanks a lot for your response.

Centurion has always been a fast ballers paradise with its bounce and swing and with South Africa planning for a green top to tame India, it is going to be hell of a job for batsman particularly to those who are suspect against fast rising deliveries like Raina. He may be a very good batsman playing on slow Indian pitches and against moderate ballers. I don't want to take any thing away from his mind blowing century scored in T-20 world cup in this country only but Test match and T-20 are two different ball games and can not be compared. As about Vijay, he is again a very good batsman against fast balling but he is a typical opening batsman, the spot he can get ahead of Sehwag and Gambhir. Out of all three I have seen very little of Pujara but whatever I saw of him, I am very much impressed about his game and I feel he should be preferred over other two batsmen for number six spot.

I agree with you, shot selection of Pujara is good also he has sound technique.Only thing is will he able to take intense pressure of performing against SA on pitches which suit them.Dhoni is backing Raina well ,however his poor technique against short ball cannot be changed overnight, all Raina should be practicing right now is to leave the short ball rather than poking at it.I am sure he wont be a sitting duck for SA bowlers this time, India will need lot of efforts by Dhoni and Raina if they have to win the series depending upon the top five wont work this time. Thanks a lot for your response.

well its a tough one.
vijay only played as an opener so he wont get to play unless gambhir or sehwag gets injured so the real battle will be between raina and pujara.
the thing is both raina are very young in this format and both contributed to winning matches but the selectors will go with raina.
raina scored only 26 runs in the test series against the kiwis so will be short of confidence but he has to remember how he came into this side.
because of the bad form of YUVI .
a bad form is what he is going through at the moment.
so he knows that if he performs badly, pujara will get a nod ahead because admit it raina may be flashy but pujara got the technique for test level

Raina has very good temperament and he has got a break , so i hope he does well in SA.He has some experience of playing in SA , recently he did well in Champions league, i think that will help him.If not Raina then i agree next choice should be Pujara instead of Vijay. Gavaskar recently pointed out some flaws in Vijay's technique which can be exposed on fast pitches .Thanks a lot for your response.

As a senior player I will go for Yuvraj Singh.Even though he is not in good form,I think this chance would give him a fine chance fro regaining his form. Also the wickets in South Africa are bouncy and quick too which will make the conditions easier for a player like Yuvraj Singh who likes stroke play.
Obviously my next option go to Suresh Raina as the world cup is approaching fast.It will also give a lot of experience and confidence to the young super star.

I agree with you on Yuvi, but he is not in the team right now, hope he returns to test cricket soon. He plays short ball well as compared to Raina ,it all depends on how Raina performs in first test. Thanks a lot for your response.

Raina will struggle the most, behind is Pujara and then better one is Vijay. Best option would be Yuvraj at 6. He can be very handy at that position but he is struggling in tests so lets see.

Raina was simply blown away in SA last time, he was a sitting duck for SA bowlers, and finally his poor form on this tour resulted into him not playing in World cup 2007.He is a changed player now , hope he is set to take revenge this time. Thanks a lot for your response.
