Problem with Updates

I use Windows Vista 32-bit SP-1 OS i am not satisfied it at all from the beginning.
But now recently i am facing some problem where i am not able to view my updates and i am forced to install it without seeing what is it.I install them when i shut down my system.If someone knows what to be done regarding this kindly help me with this problem.
