I mean in career? business? or even in personal life?
Some people don't want to take any risks in career, so they settle with working under some one, right?
On the other hand there are some people who take risks and go great heights in life.(Bill Gates must have taken a lot of risks)
I think we need to take certain risks in life- they should be like calculated risks.
If you don't take any risks , you can't reach heights.. What do you think?

There is an element of risk to whatever we do in life. We don't even have to leave our home to encounter risk. Just standing up from a chair we can risk falling over if we are not paying attention.
But we we have to do this in order to progress in whatever we undertake because if we just stand still where we are right now, life would still be dangerous, because standing or sitting still, we risk our muscles going into atrophy and becoming useless to us.
Best to take risks rather than stand still. Better still, best to take calculated risks where we know there is a good chance of winning. But nothing is guarnateed, if it were, life would again become pretty dull and hardly worth living. )_Derek

You mentioned Bill Gates. :) Actually, it is confidence out there... He was certain - had virtually no doubts about what he was proposing.
Others plunge into it with certain element of risk - i.e., possibility of failure.
That kind of risk is different. I think risk can be taken only in two cases - once when you are broke - you have only that much to buy a lottery ticket, enough for transport to cash that ticket, and enough for a couple of days meals, and a poison bottle. Second when you have so much money that that you dont know what to do with your life. Any other time... avoid risks. It is not important to reach great heights. It is more important to have enough. :)

In every turn of life there is always risk that we faced. Every moment of our life's journey is a challenge. There are not problems only opportunities to learn, grow when we take risk to venture into unknown fields. Fear of risks only limits our ability to respond to challenges. I've just heard someone say 'no pain no gain'.

Life is all about taking risk, Vijay, at least that's what I believe.:)
In whatever aspects of our lives, be it career, personal or financial there is no guarantee that we will succeed or fail.A lot took the risk in falling in love but look what they got in return, heartaches and broken homes. Others took the risk of dropping out of school and venture into business instead and where they are now, a business tycoon and owner of big enterprises.
What is important is whenever we take the plunge we are ready for the consequence. Anf if we fail the first time, never to give up taking risk. Eventually, determination, faith in yourself and in God will give you success at the end.:)

I believe that it is extremely important to take risks in life. Sometimes we can play it too safe. If we aren't willing to take chances and risks, something very special in life could be passing us by.

Risks equals challenges which can amount to success and failure. So to a certain extent risks must be taken as how would one know if they can be successful unless they fail at something.

vijayanths actually we all take some risks just walking out the door and down the street to shop. A car could careen out of control and crash into us, but still if we cannot take risks we cannot ever shop for our famiiies common sense tells us the safe ways to walk and to shop and we do not dwell on risks. We go to a family party and some of the people have children with colds so we risk catching a cold but we couyld not enjoy life if we did not gfo to that party , we forget risks and use common sense. We would not even get out of bed if we were so afraid to take risks as just living has some risks. but again if we use common sense we will avoid common risks and go on living our lives and not worrying about risks.we take risks at work and we succeed. we take risks at starting a new business but we can use some common sense ideas to make it a success and we have put risk where it belongs.

hello Jo,
Risks gives us something to say that,we achieve something we never thought we could,it's like exploring our capability and capacity beyond our strength or will to do so.

I agree with everyone else. And it seems like going outside is a bigger risk than staying in, mainly because of crime and other things. Yet, that has been the story of my life, taking risks. I've taken a risk to become a writer and pass up certain jobs and while everyone around me at my age are retiring, I'm still trying to become successful. That's what happens when you take risks I guess.

People who are successful in life usually are those who are risk taker, if one is successful but never take any risk before, he/she is probably too lucky! So, if you want to be successful, you should learn how to take risk!

I guess for me, it's a matter if the potential risks are worth the potential gain. For example, leaving a secure job to try and start a new business wouldn't be worth the potential gains to me, but it might be worth it to someone who is more passionate about owning their own businesses. You certainly can't get anywhere in life without taking risks at all, but I also think that sometimes, it's better staying in a secure situation.

you only take risks if you're up for the challenge. if you know you're the kind of person who quits at the first step or second because it's too hard, don't even consider trying.
this is only if you want to build a career.. if you're not satisfied with 'standard' jobs and you want to become someone. indeed, you can earn a lot of money only if you take risks.

Indeed!
I am amazed with your post.
It is true that without taking risks you cant reach heights.
A person must take risks to become successful.
Taking risks is important so that you know what will be the results on something you are asking about yourself.
Risk taking in life is as important as your very own life.
Because without taking risks you will live with no excitements and because of that its better to die right?
Well its just my own opinion. :)
I hoped i contribute to your wonderful post.
Happy mylotting :)

Risks are vital to life, if one truly wants to live. This doesn't mean that everyone should try extreme bungee jumping or things of that nature, but in order to truly live life instead of just letting it pass you by, you have to set goals and achieve them. You have to try new things, and overcome obstacles. All this includes taking risks; so to not take risks is to stay in the same point in life...to stagnate and die.

Risk is part of our life. If we`re too afraid to take risk, you won`t move on. Of course, it doesn`t mean that you don`t think about the consequences, you have to know about what will happen next if you do this, if you don`t do this. I took risk by leaving my comfort zone at a course, and decided to teach English for corporate training. Yeah, I started over again, sometimes I deal with difficult people, no fixed schedule and some obstacles but it makes me more prepared to anticipate what might come up. the positive sides are I meet different people, build new networking, friends and even I still keep in touch with some of my ex students.

If the risk is going to pay off, it could lead us in some interesting directions. The greatest things in life come from taking risks. We don't get to live our life to its fullest without coming out of our bubble and taking a few risks in life. Therefore, we are going to be able to live our life to our fullest. Of course, there is a difference between taking a risk and being completely reckless, but still, we're going to be able to live our life as we should and to our fullest.

In career, it is easy for me to take risks. The same with physical challenges. However, with regards to relationship, that I think is hard for me. LOL.
Risk is indeed important if you want to be successful in your career or venturing to businesses. ut it can be minimized by planning and adequate review of possible problems that may be encountered. Further, understanding the risk is essential before you jump into the business. It entails or show courage. A leader must possess adequate strength and courage to be successful.

Hi anna, how are you? Every where you will find some thing or the other risk, in career unless you take risk like hard work, you can't pass or get through. In Business if you wouldn't take risk for investment then you can't do you business at all, investment is the basic in any business but it is a risk one, and we can't expect the return immediately, we should have patience and able to reinvest if need, that capacity we should have and more over the luck and the god grace should be there. And in personal life, every step is a risk one, we always think to make ourselves to protect from the faults/mistakes, doesn't want to hurt anyone, this is more risk because our acts and talk doesn't know how the other persons will receive it, to make others please and the god too we will be struggling all the time and may be through out our life, always its like a fight between the past/present/future things. So i feel no risk no life. It is a part of our life.
Have a good day anna. My wishes to your family.

I think it is average. I believe that at times, we have to take risk. there is no such thing as playing safe. Sometime, it is just worth the effort to take the risk and it could well teach us a lesson from it.
never be afraid to try and every time we try, we will learn from it!
