Yes they are different. As a Siberian husky owner, I can tell you that the Siberian husky breed is a medium size, muscular dog whose origins date back thousand of years in Siberia. Raised by the Eskimolike Churchis of NE Siberia to pull their sleds, the Siberian also acted as a guard to their home and as a companion. Down to the centuries this service has created in the Siberian husky a strong sense of gentleness and devotion to people and their families. The Siberian has also been popular in dogsled racing. Among pure bred dog, the term "husky" is properly applied only to this breed, although is often used of any mixed-breed arctic sled dog.
The Alaskan husky is not really considered a breed of dog, it's more of a type of dog. They are simply a sled racing dog that is mixture of various arctic breeds. It is thought that the Siberian husky, setter, wolf, sight hounds or any other breed of dog that would give them more speed and endurance for racing have been used for the Alaskan husky. They aren't bred for beauty but more for their racing ability.

Hey jewel!
I'm sorry for the very late reply. but thank you very much for the info! Also, I would like to send my regards to your dog and to you also. I really wanted 1 but considering the climate here in my country (which would probably increase the dog's hair fall) and my current state, I say I cant afford one yet. heheheheh!
Thank you very much!

Forgive me for butting in just to say that I do not know, but I believe that all dogs have the same scientific name. How they become so varied, on the other hand, puzzles me.
