In Nicaragua, where I live I can eat a meal with meat, vegetable, and bread at home for a U. S. dollar minimum. Well, I could eat something like beans and rice for a lot less than a dollar. What about in your country?

with a dollar in hand in India u can finish ur breakfast and lunch & Dinner. One dollar is Rs.48 INR in here. break fast may cost around Rs.12 to 15, lunch will cost around Rs.15 to 27, and Dinner will also be the same Rs.15 - 27. But it depends on the place u eat. wat i speak is abt a average hotel in here

So you can eat rather inexpensively, if you are thinking in terms of dollars. Thank you for sharing that information.

Exactly a dollar here in the USA is basically nothing these days you may luck out with a plain donut or a candy bar, but that's about it. You can't even purchase a soda with just $1 anymore. It's quite aggrevating.

Of course, we realize the dollar would have to be exchanged to your currency. But I am speaking about after it exchanged, what would it buy?

One US dollar will buy about 2 candy bars in the US if you're careful of what kind you buy. It will also buy a bottle of soda. Even a simple fast food meal would be 3 or 4 dollars. Everything is very expensive in the US.

Yes, things are expensive in the U.S. but I suppose it equals out. You make more money and you pay more for things. You make less money, you pay less for things.

It is neat to see what a dollar can get you in other countries!! I am in the US, So I can get a coke if I am lucky. I know McDonalds has a dollar menu but you still needs some change to go with that dollar.

Yes, I am finding it quite fascinating too. You can find out what the money exchange rate is rather easily, but that still doesn't tell you what you can buy. In Costa Rica the exchange rate is about 517 colones equals one dollar, but it takes a large number of colones to buy anything.

in my country, it can buy 2 kilos of rice. not a kilo of meat, just half or 1/4. it can also be a transportation fare, but not for long distances

You can get a taxi across town for about what is equal to $0.60 or $0.70. which seems weird because gas is just about as expensive here as it is in the U.S. We had one taxi, which we sold because it was not going to do anything but cost money because of the wear and tear. It sounds like your prices there are comparable to ours. What country are you from?
21 Nov 06
Well $1 equals about 52p in my country (United Kingdom) This would not buy you much, maybe a chocolate bar.

In china (not where i live, where i come from) a dollar is about 8 yuan, and will get you breakfast and lunch if you're good at finding good bargains for food.

I live in India. For 1 US$,here,I can have a very good, meals, vegetarian or non-vegetarian,in a decent restaurant. If prepared in one's own home, one full day's food will be taken care of,for a single person! For ordinary folks,I mean.
