I trashed my friends rented junk bike ?

This incident took place yesterday, i already do own my own bike and a licence. yesterday my friend called me to try out his rented bike which is better than mine, i went to his house and decided to give it a try, guess what i rode it a few steps and automatically the bikes some part fell off and got in tyre and i lost my balance and landed with a small injury in my hand, the bike damage was high and i have no money to pay for it, my friend wants me to pay for it. is it my obligation to pay for it anyhow and by any means, what would you have done.

Check the bike over, especially where that part fell off. This could be a manufacturing fault.
It was an accident, I would go back to the rental place and tell them that. You should either get a new one to replace the broken one or get your money back.

I can't exactly say who was at fault for this. It could go in either direction but you should at least try to fix it before either of you point the fingers at the other person.
