A daily regimen of vitamins - good for you or overkill?

Some people religiously take a hand full of vitamins daily. They believe that they're doing the right thing for their body and overall health. Are they really doing their body a favor or are they overdosing their body with vitamins that it doesn't really need?

I get sick when I take some vitamins. I have to purchase certain ones. I literally feel like I am getting the flu after about 4 or 5 days of taking them. I decided to forget it and just try to eat a wise variety of healthy foods.

Overkill for sure. I never like putting anything in pill form in my body to begin with. If you eat the right things, then there should be no need for vitamins. It is just putting a bit to much extra as far as I am concerned. Just asking for trouble when I really think about it.

My personal opinion is that taking vitamins is a cheap form of insurance. As an example, if I don't take extra Vitamin C, I will get nosebleeds so I take it and I am not concerned with that problem. Another example, I enjoy giving blood at the Red Cross blood drive which comes right to our town every 2 months. If I take an Iron pill the night before I give blood my blood will be accepted. If I don't I might get lucky, but I also might not get lucky and will waste my time going to do so.
