Here in the Philippines, surveys companies are always trying to get the pulse of the people when it comes to social concerns and sometimes primarily sets the spotlight on the political arena (where there are never-ending issues). Surveys are always aired and broadcast in the television as a news story. What do feel about surveys? Do you think that they are reliable in terms of approval rating (when it comes to politicians)? Do you think it is a good measurement or instrument of the feelings/concerns/thinking of the whole country?

hi jeanneyvonne,
for me surveys is good somehow because it says what the people feels and their concerns also but we don't know if they are telling the truth or not. And also surveys is not the basis of the good measurement of the feelings/concerns and thinking of the entire nation and not good basis also for the approval rating of the certain politicians.

For me survey should not be the basis in evaluating a president or any politicians, most of the people who will be interviewed might not tell the truth.they may say just "yes" because they will be seen in the television.but that is not what they felt.i think we should not focus on this issues.it might help in some point but what we need is action from the government.we need development.we have to informed our economy.we have to help the president in attaining his goal for the country.we have to be united.survey will still remain as a survey,it is just a form.it won't give us any benefit.what we should focus on is on the things on how our country will lessen poverty at the same remove corruption in the country, with this,we will be part of one of the successful countries around the globe.

I think surveys reflect the sentiments of the majority. I make it a point to discuss with the common man - like the street vendors and taxi drivers - about their political points of view. My informal survey has shown me that the surveys by poll firms are quite accurate. Nevertheless, I don't think that we should base public decisions on surveys. The feelings of the people may not be in the interest of the nation.

Surveys are indeed helpful but it shouldn't be the sole basis of gauging a public servant/public office's performance. Most of the time, the unpopular acts are the things that should be done in order to foster change.

Hi! Surveys are actually helpful in terms of popularity for those politicians, etc. however, this does not mean that most of us Filipinos liked/voted the said politician, broadcasting company, products, etc. It would be our own prerogative if we believe in the said surveys since we all have our own favorites depending on our own needs or advantages. Cheers!
