Do you prefer driving an auto gear car or one with a manual gearshift?

I presently have an autogear car, but prior to that I was usign a manual gear shift car. Although the autogear cars are easier to drive I find it a lot more thrilling to drive a manual shift car.
I also find that autogear cars use a lot more fuel.
What do you prefer?

I hate a manual transmission. When I was with my husband I occasionally would have to drive his truck and it was a manual. After driving an automatic it is hard for me to go back and forth. My second husband tried to teach me to drive a manual and it was a horrible experience. He would get so upset with me because it was hard to drive up over a high spot in the road if I was at a stop.

When my sisters and I were just learning to drive my Dad said that it was enough to do just to make the car go straight down the road without having to be concerned with shifting gears and all the other things that went along with learning to drive while also driving a manual transmission. I believe he had the right idea. Comments, please?

I prefer manual gear shift car as it gives us the feel of real driving. Its actually easy to drive an automatic gear shift car but i prefer the other and the fuel consumption is more in auto than manual.

I don't really have a preference in this regard. I can drive both with equal competence. The manual transmission vehicles do get better fuel mileage, usually. The reason for this is because they are direct drive. This means that when they are in gear there is no slip built into them. Automatic transmission vehicles have a certain amount of slip built into them which is why they are not quite as economical on fuel, as long as everything else is equal. By the way, I have found an oil additive that will help ALL VEHICLES get better fuel mileage. If anyone wants to know more about it they are welcome to PM me here.

Pitstop, hi there!
Having learned to drive a car with manual gear shift, I knew nothing else. Then my father bought a Ford with an autogear car - the autogears were under the steering wheel. I had a lot of problems with that. Then I bought my own car, which had the autogears situated where they are these days. Then I really enjoyed driving and would not, and could not, go back to a manual gear shift. For me, it's a autogear car every time!

it actually depends to the location from where you are driving. for me driving in automatic is easier for me here in the philippines. i hate driving manual cars although i know how to drive manual cars, since i am here in the philippines, heavy traffic occurs often.

For me it's manual transmission. It's just what I'm accustomed to. I've had a couple of automatics in my life but I enjoy driving "stick shift" more. I hate getting into an automatic and, through force of habit, try depressing a clutch pedal that isn't there....or depressing the brake instead....or reaching for a gear shifter that isn't there. The only time I hate driving a "stick shift" is when I'm in stop and go traffic...which, fortunately for me is rare. I certainly understand why some people seem to have a "fear" of driving manual transmission cars. It was a little stressful for me when I first learned. But, like anyhting else, you learn through repetition and get better at it. Driving a car with a standard transmission is so second-nature to me that I'm just not happy in anything else. If more people would just be patient with the learning process and would just keep working at it I think they would realize what a thrill it can be to drive a "stick." It's really not that hard to learn; it just takes practice.
