CAN ONE SOLEY RELY ON THE INTERNET TO MAKE A LIVING?

There are so many websites promising riches online. Are there honestly people out there who were once conventional salary earners (9-5ers)who are now better off financially because of working only online?

I haven't made a living off the internet, but I think it's very possible and achievable to the average guy :) A lot of people make loads of money, and some people have become millionaires with their websites, like the creators of Digg or YouTube.
