Why are Americans so fat?

I've met several people from other countries and they all say the US is known for being the fattest country. Why do you think we treat ourselves so badly and eat so much that we've become famous for being fat?

i only speak for west virginia, but 9 out of 10 people here are on welfare and receive food stamps. so when you dont have to work and can sit around all day and eat, then you pay the price of being obese. cnn says that we are the poorist state in the country. I disagree. these people are able to work, but are too lazy
