Retirement plans were mentioned in my business class I was taking and I was wondering if everyone has one. Do you have a retirement plan/account? Why or why not... do you think it's a good idea to start? When did you start yours? How was your experience with it?

hi! along with my insurances, i also have a retirement plan that would start giving benefits when i hit 60. but that's almost 3 decades to go yet. hehe i started when i was 23. i got one initially to help my sister being the agent. lol but i realize the benefit of also starting early because it's the time when earnings are steady and i was younger then and can plan my finances according to my personal wants and needs. that done, i'm now planning on working on a new retirement plan that would let me benefit before i hit 40. this will make me enjoy my finances more without waiting for the golden age. the bank that holds the investment portfolio is very reliable and my sister in law has been working there for 20 years. in addition, the company i'm working for right now has great incentives for productivity and it works well for my retirement plan benefits too. financial planning is great. people need to manage finances in order to better utilize your resources and achieve maximized benefits. planning ahead is like having a safety net for possible emergencies and other unexpected events in our lifetime.

Yeah, I'm thinking of starting mine too... just that I'm jobless right now and I feel like I want more info. That's cool you have a sister who knows it all. Thanks for sharing.

yes, before you invest for your retirement plan, make use of available info that could help you plan better. if resources are tight, i believe short-term priorities and short-term plans are on top of the list. goodluck!

Yes..I do. I have a 401k plan through the company that I work for. I have not taken full advantage of the program but I do put a percentage of my checks in there. I am matched by the company and when I reach 55 I can retire with that money. I don't think I will actually be able to retire at that age but I am hoping to be able to contribute more in the near future. I think that it is very important to try and plan ahead..even if it is just a little. I am worried about the social security status and I don't want to be unable to work and not have any supplemental income.

If I had a job, I would jump right to it too. I think it's important to plan ahead too.

I don't exactly! I plan to be able to relax in my dream house with all the luxuries i have ever wanted and needed for myself, my partner my son and the amazingly huge but friendly dog we are gonna have too... I also would like to put extra money into my super at a time when i am better off financially, at the moment i am bearly scraping through from week to week with supplies, but we have all that we need and treat ourselves with those things we need when its possible.

I think its never too early to start. My husband and I are both business people and financially smart and have setup an account for retirement as we have no faith in social security ever paying us what is owed. We also want to setup an account for our children from the day then are born. Its never too early to start saving and trying to pay off the house as soon as possible.

I do have an IRA, and although I am no way near retirement yet, I find it is very important. As life throughs us loops that at time we are totally unprepared for. So my intentions with my IRA is to specifically assure that if something abruptly happens to me that my children will be able to lay me to rest without having to worry how to fund it. I know life insurance would come handy but let's face it, monthly premiums and God knows how long it will be before I pass, so this is my way and have been blessed that although I have nothing else left in life that my IRA has quadrupled since the start.

I am contemplating in getting another. That is a good idea, a nice way after a retirement.
