Everybody has a brain and the function of the brain is to question

I read a great deal of interesting discussions in mylot and responded to those I can relate well as I am super active here and is able to mylot for long hours a day without getting bored. Mylotting has become my routine and who cares what others say on my activities here but since this lot keeps me away from undesirable activities (gambling, gossiping etc..) I stay glued to mylot that helped me pass my time and keep my sanity intact by having fruitful sharing with learned and experienced people in mylot.
But what surprised me is when I started a topic that has unexpectedly drawn in many responses and someone has the audacity to say that my topic of discussion was controversial which sparked others to respond. This is something that is not true as many are aware that controversial discussions are the most unfavorable topics here and have high chances of being parked at the 'no response' shelf. Getting many responses is only on rare occasions and should be viewed as a 'lucky strike' instead of criticizing the OP for posting and hitting the roof with responses. Do you equate a discussion with many responses as a controversial discussion?

Hi Zandi! I think some people are critical no matter what the discussion is. When I am MyLotting, I give honest answers to a discussion and I am who I am, however, if I totally disagree with a particular subject, there are ways where you can be polite and not just down right rude. I think some people that start discussions ask for others opinions, however when we give them they get very defensive. If you ask others for advise or their opinions, you have to remember that is exactly what they are...THEIR opinions. It doesn't mean you have to take their advise. With that being said, their are other people that answer so rudely and that is not necessary. We are all humans, and make mistakes, but to sit on here and slam someone for sharing a story with others is really unexcusable. I enjoy my self on mylot as well as you do, but lately some people on here have to learn to lighten up a bit.

I know, and it is just sad. No one wants to be verbally bashed on here. I am all about giving honest opinion, but it can be done tastefully.

Just because a discussion gets a large number of responses does not mean it is a controversial topic. It could be a really fun topic to respond to. Or it could be a Universal type of discussion that everyone can relate to. I do not understand why someone would be critical of your discussion just because people can answer it and choose to do so.

I don’t believe that a popular discussion is necessarily a controversial one. I posted one about a year that received over one hundred responses and it was about one’s favourite drink or something equally innocuous. I don’t believe that you are the type of person who would purposely set out to be antagonistic. I didn’t read the post you are referring to but I am still certain that your intention was not an argumentative one so the people involved with the touchy responses are best ignored; maybe they were the ones who set out to be quarrelsome!

Hi Zandi. I have seen some discussions here that have gotten pages and pages of responses, but the discussion has been very basic with not a lot of room for back and forth discussing. Asking a question and getting a response is not really a discussion in my opinion, but you see quiet a few discussions here like that with no real opportunity for voicing a real opinion.
You are right, our brains need to question our thoughts and the thoughts of others in order to stay healthy. A clever mind can only come about through use and discussing topics that may have different view points is a great way to exercise our minds.
I think some people are attracted by controversial subjects, but most I think prefer to avoid them. Sometimes I am willing to participate in them, but other times, I think I could not be bothered so I move on. It really depends on my mood and how much time I have.

I was quite naive when I first joined mylot and would specifically go for discussions that are debatable. But since they are considered 'controversial' and is not doing justice to our reputation, I now refrain and try to mellow down a bit to only align myself to something light and easy. How dare I start a controversial discussions that doesn't benefit me or my responders as it is a landmine that we are trying to avoid here.

Landmines are good to avoid. I do not mind a debate, but I try not to take things personally. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and I do not get upset if someone believes the opposite of me. It is easier to stay away from those debates though, but that does not give the opportunity for ourselves and others to think and learn if we always avoid them.

zandi congratulations for getting a lot of responses as that meand a lot of us appreciated your discussions and wanted to share our opinions.
I never look at any of my discussions that really get a lot of smoking was bad for your health. i mean those against it poured paragraph after paragraph in saying it was bad while all the smokers pounced on me and some really insulted me.also it caused two trolls to take my ten down to a five in 24 hours, I did complain, and they were indeed caught and banned from mylot . I was only put back to a 8
but I worked myself up to a 9 and 92 percent which is okay.
I feel I have at last earned that.

Hi Hartley, your words I truly appreciate appreciated your discussions and wanted to share our opinions. This is the reasons why we post discussions here to get feedback from people of all walks of life. We are here for the same purpose and to pin down the OP just because the discussion gets good responses by trying to put unreasonable reasons is not only demoralizing and not to mention trying to undermine others. What is really disturbing however is the intent behind making others red with embarrassment with such uncalled for accusations.

Of course I am always happy when one of my discussions grabs the attention of many people, it's great fun to hear from those who are not on my friends list. But mostly I am just glad the I get the number of responses necessary to get paid. I am happy that mylot can work so well for you. It helps me also, in many ways it is my only social contact. Blessings and Happy Holidays

Hello dear Lady... Though my health issues have kept me from being as active here as I would like to be, I still follow your writing daily. WHen I see something I feel truly compelled to respond to, I do so. As I read this this morning, I felt for certain compelled to write. First let me say that "controversial discussions have been the Gateway for some of the most fascinating writing ever done. I myself love a good "debate" and that is what I rather call the proverbial "controversial conversation." They often bring out a two way street meaning that the most intelligent AND the most ignorants often will respond as one. But the question here is... do you receive a huge amount of responces because your write was controversial? Well, there again, as I said, the smart and the not so smart answer the same questions sometimes.
The fact that many of your writes draw in huge reponces is not based on them being "controversial." I believe fully that you receive many responces because like me, many readers find your discussions to be very thought provoking and completely worthy of a responce. You write with passion and open discussion that are about the every day person. The you and me and the guy next door. Relevant discussions that allow a vast variety of answers because there is not always one simply answer to be written. You feed the very life line that has made MyLot as strong as it is today. You open peoples minds to thoughts and there-fore, you fill in the spaces as Mylot writers should do.
I would think, rather than the fact that your writing was controversial, it is in fact highly interesting and so, it brings in the huge responces that I have become accustomed to seeing attached to your discussions. Any other explanations are formed by writers, jealous of a great writer and to make thenselves look better or feel better, they tear you down. Do Not let them take you down, precious lady. Keep doing what you are doing here because the responces ou receive say it all, very loudly. You start interesting and sometimes even intoxicating discussions and That, dear one, is what you are suppose to do here. Thank you from me for that. Always I am just a screen away. ;) Darrel

Hi Darrel, you are one of the rare breed of people in mylot, a silent mylotter that only creep out of your cocoon as and when you are triggered to say something concrete which makes you a precious gem to keep. It is expected of you as an established writer to write at great length, something I truly enjoy reading as with all your other trilling short stories in your blog. Thanks for your never ending support, words of encouragement and your words here today inspired me to keep going and not to entertain words that might be tainted with jealousy. Thanks once more for yet another great write from you.

I agree that everyone has a brain. We could not live or function without it. Our brain is used to respond to so many different things. I don't believe the brsin is only used for questioning things in our lives.
