Discussing Topics Online...people are petty and cruel.

I started discussions on other forums, about news, and I have realized that people are quite cruel and petty when it comes to any topic out there. For example, we were discussing the man that gave $10,000 to the state of CA, the other day. It was amazing the weird and awful comments that people were making about his kindness and generosity. I feel that people think that because they are hidden by their screen name, they can say anything, no matter how hurtful or prejudiced, or cruel it is. What are your thoughts on this? I always try and speak as if I were speaking to someone face to face. Do you feel that you embellish or are purposely misleading or are hateful just because you are hidden my a screen name and the veil of the internet or that others are this way?

Yes, I have definitely come across some nasty comments made by people who are obviously doing so because the internet offers them anonymity. More often than not they are crudely written with not even basic grammar or spelling skills. You can just tell that if these were face - to - face forums, they wouldn't be as brave as they are hiding behind a computer.

Clearly, people who have no good life to live of their own have nothing better to do than put other people down. And as I stated before, for the most part they can't even do so intelligently. Maybe since they have so much time on their hands they should think about going back to school.

There are all kinds of people in this world and we can't expect everybody to be kind-hearted, nice, and appreciate good people. I agree with you that people express their true thoughts (their real character) here because they are hidden and they are known to the world only by a screen name. We can't expect everybody in this world to be good, we just have to deal with all kinds of people.
