In theory cloud computing has abig pluspoint to it. Things like programmes and data are stored on a host's server(s). This eliminates the need of purchasing multiple licences for a software. It also reduces the need for local storage devices.
Whatever the positive points of cloud computing is I do not trust it completely. Imagine having company's secrets at a location far away from the physical office location. Then imagine a breach of security on the server. Customers are assured that such a scenario is highly likely to happen. I have my doubts.
To use cloud computing a user needs to be online. When the Internet connection is down the user will be left with a dumb terminal. Installing back-up software to get around this scenario? Then it defeats the concept or purpose of cloud computing. A virus or other malware attack can compromise many things.
Another point is that users are tied down to the software provided by the host. This in a way can kill creativity.
For what it is worth cloud computing has its value, notably in big companies having hundreds of computers. In other words it is more practical to have the cloud computing server located locally, or hosted by a server run by the same company.
Well, it is only my opinion. There may be other aspects of cloud computing which have not come to my attention, and make my thoughts to be irrelevant.
