Sexist discrimination and Sports.

Nowhere is the hypocrisy of our "anti discrimination" policies more on display than in sports.
In the name of "fairness" and "equality" we have admitted women into physically demanding jobs by lowering the standards to accommodate them. Firefighters, EMTs, Police, Military... each of these sectors have much lower requirements for women than they do for men.
Why do they lower the standard? Do the laws of physics change by PC demand? Is the equipment a female EMT somehow lighter than the equipment a male carries? Do people in burning buildings weigh less for female firefighters than for males?
The "justification" is that, unless we lower the standards to allow more women into physically demanding jobs, we are somehow "discriminating" against them. Apparently though, it's ok to discriminate against the men these substandard women work with by making them take up the slack.
So why do sports teams get to uphold their standards. When life and limb hang in the balance, we are forced to make accommodations, but when far more important things like medals, trophies and paychecks are at stake, we draw the line!
What would happen if the same "anti discrimination" laws were imposed on the NFL, NBA, FIFA or The Olympics themselves? What would happen if we outlawed segregation of the sexes in sports?
But of course, medals and trophies are far more sacred than national defense and saving lives... aren't they.

Well, I don't know much to say. It's all true. I was in the military and I know our basic training was nothing compared to their's. I could do sit ups like the females had to do and as many as they wanted (bout 30), but you could forget the men's. I could do about 3.

Of course they aren't, but wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where they were?

I think most people do concentrate on sports and give national defense a shrug at best. ;~D

Not what I meant. Wouldn't it be nice if we could live in a world where we could concentrate on sports and not national defense....

No comment but agreement, really. I just came to see the fire ants go nutzoid over reality...again.
Nice work, Ted!

I can remember a time when girls played a half court game of basketball instead of full court because men thought girls were too weak or delicate to endure a full court game. There was a time when women weren't allowed to run a marathon for the same reason. With conditioning, it's been proven that girls and women are very capable of participating in these sports and others that were once reserved for men only. However, no matter how big and strong women become, they will never equal man in brute strength. It's not a fault, it's just a fact. So, women need to accept that they can't do everything a man can do and quit trying to be men.

I agree, but if you were a military officer or NCO, or in the leadership of a fire, EMS or police department and said what you just said, you would be fined and probably lose your job.

I do believe a woman should have the chance and not be discriminated against simply because she is a female. But I don't believe the bar should be lowered for her. :)

True, but I wonder why it's unacceptable in everything, except sports.

hello parated
Well women and men are different.Thats how it is made by nature. We do have different strength and weakness.
Even if this is true ..you know there are going to be some women who are "manly" and more stronger than normal male.I think such a people should get chance to do work in such a fields.

Yes, in most cases, any woman who can meet the physical standard should be allowed to do that job.
But it still doesn't explain why the fact that our sports teams are allowed to be segregated, but when lives are at risk, that is just too much to ask.
Trophies are more sacred than lives.

I saw a John Stossel special yesterday that I'd taped and he did a segment on Title 9, which says you can't discriminate against women in sports. Because of this, you have to have teams for women in proportion to their enrollment in college. And if a team has a number of men on it, there has to be women, too. Many college teams-some who had Olympic aspirations and the talent to compete there-are now gone thanks to Title 9.
It's ridiculous, really. I'm a woman and I know I'm different from a man. I'm physically weaker, for one thing, just because of the way God built me. I don't want a woman rescuing me from a burning building! I have no idea how to fight this idea that we are all equal because we are NOT. It's time to celebrate and appreciate our differences, not deny them and make everyone suffer for that denial.
